My coaching approached is based on the 8-year experience I gained in BCG, interviewing more than 300 candidates and training new interviewers.
It is a successful mix of practice (70%) and theory (30%).
Starting from a mock case interview, first of all, the candidate learns how to actively listen, comprehend and classify a case (among 7 pre-defined case types).
Then, the candidate learns how to properly choose a framework (based on the above classification) and – crucial- how to correctly adapt it to the specific case.
After that, the candidate has the opportunity to improve her/his way to run the analyses, focusing on a hypotheses driven approach. She/he learns how to ask the right questions, in a proper way, and how to organize data and calculations in a clear and structured manner.
Finally, from the solution, the candidate enhances her/his approach to drawing the conclusions and exposing the “so what” of the case.
The candidate will receive two types of feedback: a structured one at the end of the case (based on MBB evaluation axes) and a brief and immediate one throughout the case, noting most critical points, mistakes and “best practices”.
This method has already proved extremely successful, and combined with focus and proper individual training, will maximize MBB interviews chances of success.
