Working from home country while employed by MBB office in another country

Hi there,

I wondered if MBB allows employees to spend a few weeks working from their home country, a few weeks during the Christmas period and a few weeks in the summer, for example.

Is this a common practice? I currently work for a big company in an European country and many of my colleagues can spend time with their families during the vacational period, working from home. I also do it, my country is in the same time zone as my office, so it is not a big change.

Hi there!

Yes, it's possible.

But it's something that you rather need to negotiate with your project team at that time.

There's no strict policy around it.

The reality is that some projects require you to be more present at the client whereas others don't. Similarly, some leadership teams tend to be more strict about the presence of consultants at the client whereas others are not. If the stars align right, you can basically do whatever you want.

What's within your power - certainly - is having the discussion with them, presenting your preference and how you're planning on doing the work while away.

Best,
Cristian

Hi,

I would urge you to check what your HR policy is. The reason why this is important is that sometimes there are actually tax implications for the firm (and yourself) depending on the location in which you are performing the work. This is why some firms limit the amount of remote work that can be done.

Hello,

This is going to depend on cultural norms in the specific region/office, and also on the kind of project you are staffed on. In the US it's fairly uncommon to be allowed to work from home for several weeks unless that's what your entire team is doing, and the client doesn't require in-person presence.

Hi there,

You should be able to do this. However, keep in mind they may require you to take leave….this is especially true during the Christmas period.

This, of course, will depend on the specific firm, office, how you handle the conversations with HR/your superiors, your role level/performance, etc.
