URGENT: Pulling Out from MBB Assessment

Hi,

I've just gotten news to be invited to a 5 hour exam at Bain tomorrow (one hour technical written exam and a 4 hour group assignment). This came as a surprise, and I feel incredibly unprepared for it. For additional context, I've already failed bain last year due to maths (final round interview, but I math math errors throughout the process). I feel like if I fail this again (and quite badly), I may be blacklisted.

May I have your opinions on this? Should I not take the risk? Up until this point, I have had no exposure to written interviews as well and I'm terrible at making slides too.

Hi there,

Puh, tough decision.

If you feel unprepared for this type of task, chances are very high that you would not pass. In that sense, it could make sense to pull out.

AFAIK, you would not be blacklisted after two failed applications though as long as you can demonstrate significant improvements in your resume for the next application.

All the best,

Florian

Hey!

I would say given the urgency, it's important to weigh the risks and benefits carefully. If you feel significantly unprepared and fear another poor performance could hurt future chances, it might be wise to politely withdraw, stating you’d like to reapply when you're better prepared. However, if you're willing to face the challenge, focus on doing your best with the time you have. Since it’s a last-minute decision, avoiding another failure might be worth postponing for a more serious future attempt. Either way, be honest with yourself about your readiness and long-term goals.

Good luck in any way! Alessa :)
