It's great to hear about your experience and the growth you've been a part of at your tech startup. It seems like you've developed a strong skill set and have gained valuable exposure in commercial operations and strategy.

Considering your motivations for exploring new career options, consulting could indeed be a great fit for you. It offers the opportunity to broaden your horizons, gain exposure to different industries and business challenges, and benefit from the structure and formal development that consulting firms provide.

Your experience in a fast-paced startup environment, agility, adaptability, and commercial acumen are all valuable assets that would be highly sought after in the consulting industry. Additionally, your understanding of the industry you serve and your involvement in decision-making processes would be valuable in helping clients navigate their own challenges.

In my experience in both consulting and tech, I think a good middle ground for you could be to go a digital practice e.g. McKinsey Digital / BCG Digital Ventures. You'll get the best of both worlds there, and could then pull a lateral move into traditional consulting if you wanted to.

Hi there,

There is a lot here! To properly digest all of this and provide a tailored solution + answers for you - i.e. to do this justice - would take a good hour (coaching session)

Two things:

  1. I implore you to work on conciseness + precision. First, this is a lot for us to digest…help us help you. Second, it's absolutely critical to be concise in consulting
  2. I highly recommend a coach to help you in crafting your networking and application strategy - there is so much here and it's really easy to run yourself around in circles without the right guidance

It's very hard to do networking right. Easy to do it wrong - feel free to message to support here!

Hi there,

wow, thanks for the detailed briefing. Generally, your background in a tech startup brings valuable skills to consulting. To translate your profile effectively, highlight your agility, adaptability, and decision-making experience in a fast-paced environment.

Networking is key! Consider reaching out to consultants on LinkedIn for informational chats. As for applying, firms like MBB have cyclical hiring, while others might have ongoing opportunities. Applying through the experienced hire route is common, and you may be considered a level above entry.

I'd be happy to discuss this further in a free coffee chat. Feel free to DM me to set up a conversation.

Warm regards,

Freddy
