How much does a McKinsey experienced hire make if they are coming in on a more focused track at the partner level. I’ve been asked to consider it by a partner, but I’m not so sure what to expect. Love the work that the firm does as we have utilized them before. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Salary

Hello there,
First of all, congratulations on being suggested such a position, it seems you have not only a relevant and extensive expertise, but also may have the abilities to open doors in terms of clients.
I recommend you to look for this kind of information in Glassdoor, Redit, Quora, Glassdoor, Salary.com, PayScale, Monster and other similar forums. See that the most significant part of your compensation will be the bonus, not the salary.
A quick check on Glassdoor brought the following:
"McKinsey partners in the US earn an average of $264,761 per year. However, this can range from $198,571 to $370,665 annually, with some reporting earnings up to $484,513. Total compensation, including bonuses and stock, can be significantly higher, potentially exceeding $1 million according to management consultants. Associate Partners, Junior Partners, and Senior Partners fall within the $300k-$650k range in base salary, with further variation in total compensation. "
Best,
Mari

Hi there,
I see Mariana has already shared the core sources from which you can get an estimate. As you can see, the estimates offer a rather broad range.
To make it even broader :) but hopefully useful, you can assume, in general, that Partners make at least as much as their C-level counterparts in most industries.
If you are interested in pursuing this, I would recommend you get in touch with their Senior Talent Managers and ask them to put you in touch with some of the Partners at the firm. They could give you a frank estimate so you know what to expect. Needless to say, that shouldn't be what you base your decision on.
Best,
Cristian

The other coaches above have already shared some good resources here.
One thing I would mention is that compensation is also quite highly variable at the AP / Partner level.
The last couple of years have been pretty rough for quite a few firms vs. normal comp expectation (especially for firms with global P+L), so do bear that in mind when collecting your data.

Apart from the salary levels (which I am sure McK would be more than happy to match or better at the Partner level if they see that value in you) - it is the entry at Partner level which is interesting to discuss.
I would imagine that the entry point will be in a non-Partner situation and then you work through projects and sales to get to Partner - better clarify the details before decision.
And keep in mind that Partners make more from their bonus than their salary.

Hi there,
I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:
- First of all, I would strongly advise you to ask for a range - they usually provide this information when you get further in the interviews.
- Moreover, in general, partner-level compensation is rarely standardized like entry-level roles. It depends heavily on location, function, seniority within the partner level, and business performance. However, in the U.S., total annual compensation often ranges from $500K to $1M+, including base, performance bonus, and other compensation components.
You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.
If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
Best,
Hagen
