Resource to take before leaving the firm

Hola,

I am leaving an MBB firm in 1 month. I am thinking to take some the valuable resources (slide template, material, etc).

What are the resources I should take?

What steps should I do in terms of maximizing the resources?

Any “must do/must have" items before leaving the firm?

Thanks so much

Geez - are you really expecting people to share here what they stole from their ex-employers in terms of IP, and even provide a “best of” list? Now I've surely seen it all…

Hi there,

You take nothing with you other than the experience, learnings, and connections you made. Anything else isn't yours to take and would likely constitute breach of contract, if not theft.

When I left McKinsey, it was painful to leave behind my access to so much amazing knowledge, material, insights, etc. However, that's the way it is for everyone, and you now have a chance to move on and create your own materials or start in a new place with new resources.

Best of luck for your new start post-MBB!

Cheers,
Moritz

Please please do not take resources.

In terms of must do/must have, think about creating a word doc tracking everything you have learned/need. This could be:

  1. Contacts (People, who they are etc.)
  2. Resources
  3. Learnings
  4. Tips/shortcuts
  5. Etc.

Hello,

At MBB you're almost certainly banned from taking any IP with you by the terms of your employment contract. I would strongly advise you not take anything.

That said, some MBB offices provide some resources for their alumni upon exit (e.g., alumni network, software, some partner discounts). If your office provides anything like that, that's something you can comfortably take advantage of.

Hi,

I would check with your exit policy but typically you are not allowed to take any IP from your firm.

Check your exit policy fine print and adhere to that :)

Some firms might offer powerpoint tools/plugins to alumni at a discounted rate - you could also check with the IT team on this.

Hi there!

I would strongly recommend not to take anything.

Consulting firms are very private about their intellectual property and sharing anything of their own can lead to some very unpleasant discussion.

At most, try to store that learning in your own head before learning. If you figure out how to create slide templates on your own, then you will also own that knowledge and can create from it as well. It's not worth being sued for template (or for anything else for that matter) :)

Best,
Cristian
