Referral after CV rejection

Hello,

I had a CV reject recently at a tier 2 top firm. Subsequently, I happened to have a chat with a senior expert at the firm who offered to refer me. So I sent him my CV. I had not mentioned to him about my recent CV reject, though.

Should I have mentioned it to him or does my earlier reject have no impact if referred by the senior expert?

Thank you

Hi there,

Q: Should I have mentioned it to him or does my earlier reject have no impact if referred by the senior expert?

When exactly was your rejection? Usually consulting companies have a ban period after a rejection and you should wait a bit before a new application.

I would recommend to always be transparent with those referring you. The problem is that if he refers you to the same office, he will probably be notified you have been previously rejected, which would not be great to know ex-post.

Best,

You should let him know, yes. It's more polite that way, and it might be helpful to overturn that initial rejection.

Hi there,

You need to be transparent with these things!

You absolutely need to flag this to the senior expert and ask them what you should do. More likely than not, it's too late, but there may be a chancce that he/she talks to HR.

In the future, pro-actively be clear with people - they'll found out eventually anyway and it's just a bad look if so!

You should definitely mention this to the referee - they will be able to tell the HR/recruiter accordingly.

Hi there,

Always good to be upfront and honest about it.

Consulting firms have quite good memory (i.e. databases), so the recruiters will see your prior application anyway.

That said, given your rejection was a while back, this should not impact your chances at all, especially in times like these, when consulting firms are growing rapidly across the board.
