“Recruiting partner” for an MBB office?

I’m doing my round 2 interviews for an MBB, and one of my interviewers was changed to the head of recruitment partner for my target office.

Could this change be because they have reviewed my application and want to do the interview personally? Would such a partner have access to my whole application instead of just the standard CV (previous feedback, transcripts etc)? Also, is it a good or bad thing, anything to keep in mind specifically when you interview with such a partner?

Hi there,

You made it the 2nd round - well done and just focus on that! I wouldn’t read anything into the changes. This is almost certainly due to scheduling conflicts.

As the head of recruitment, said Partner will have access to everything. However, that’s generally the case for any Partner in 2nd round.

I’m actually not sure at all what exactly you’re concerned about, other than the typical worries that one has before their interviews.

Keep up the good work and all will be fine. Best of luck!

Moritz

I was under the impression interviewers only have access to the CV and at most the cover letter? It’s what other coaches have said on several questions in the Q&A.

Partners will typically have access to feedback from 1st round to inform their focus for the 2nd round. Whether or not they utilize their access is another story. I have seen it happening and not happening. Either way, all data points from all rounds are taken into consideration by the end of the process.

Hi!

It means absolutely nothing :)

No, they don't have more access that the other interviewer. No, they didn't pick you specifically.

Most likely the initial interviewer couldn't do it anymore so the hiring Partner is doing it instead.

Sharing below a couple of tips on what to expect from a final round interview:

  1. Expect less structure. Senior interviewers already have the confidence that you are a decent candidate, your skills having been already vetted by their younger colleagues. They are rather more interested in your as a person and your way of thinking. So they might present you with an unusual case, or one that is created on the spot or no case altogether. Expect anything.
  2. Focus on excellent communication. Senior interviewers care a lot about how clearly you communicate and how you manage to forge a connection with the interviewer. It's important to be top-down and concise as much as possible with your answers, while allowing the conversation to flow in a natural way.
  3. Put yourself in their shoes. The one question senior interviewers are asking themselves throughout the interview is what will happen when they'll put you in front of a client they've groomed for years? Make sure that even based on this first impression you seem somebody who can be trusted and who can work with any client regardless of how difficult they might be.

That's about it. Best of luck!

Hi there,

This has probably happened because your original interviewer is not available. HR / Recruiting (and not recruiting partners) leads the whole process and take this type of decisions.

Your new interviewer will have access to the same application materials than the original one.

This isn’t good or bad. Just act as this new interviewer would have been your original one and be ready for both fit and case parts.

Happy to keep talking about this in private, just send me a message.

Best,

Alberto

Hi there,

1) Could this change be because they have reviewed my application and want to do the interview personally?

Most likely this is just due to the availability of the interviewers.

2) Would such a partner have access to my whole application instead of just the standard CV (previous feedback, transcripts etc)?

Most likely they will have access to the same information that the original interviewer would have had for that round.

3) Also, is it a good or bad thing, anything to keep in mind specifically when you interview with such a partner?

In itself, it’s neither good nor bad. I would not consider a different approach due to that. In terms of the difference between first and final rounds, you can find some tips below:

Good luck!
