Real estate role at McKinsey, how is going to be the process?

Hello, I recently applied for the Real Estate Project Manager role at McKinsey, and the first contact will be a 30-minute recruiter screen and would like to learn more about the process. Based on my research, I understood the first step would be the Problem Solving Game, but I don’t know if for this kind of role I will skip it or I will do it afterwards. Can somebody confirm the typical stages for this role?

hey,

It seems like for non-consulting roles like Real Estate Project Manager, you typically don’t have to do the McKinsey Problem Solving Game. That’s mainly for consulting track candidates. Your process will likely be: first a short recruiter screen, then one or two rounds of interviews focusing on your project management experience, stakeholder coordination, and fit with McKinsey’s culture. some roles might include a short case-style or technical assessment related to real estate projects, but it’s much more practical and role-specific than a traditional consulting case.

Not sure if I got you right!

best,
Alessa :)

This is not one of the 'regular' 'generalist' roles so the process is likely to differ a lot from office to office.

The only person who will be able to clarify the exact requirements is the recruiter.

Prepare a set of questions for the discussion with them, and if anything doesn't make sense, don't hesitate to go deeper.

Best,
Cristian

For most non-consulting specialist roles, the process is a bit lighter than the generalist track. A 30-min recruiter screen is standard, then usually a couple of interviews with the hiring manager and team. Some candidates still get the Problem Solving Game, but many real-estate/operations roles skip it entirely. A recruiter can confirm for your specific case.

It’s similar to how a famous block management company hires specialists more focused on your domain expertise than on broad consulting assessments.
