McKinsey Solve Accommodation after online assessment date.

I'm a student who has the Tourette's Syndrome but I didn't know the disability accommodations before I did the McKinsey solve test, which I had done poorly. After the solve test, I requested accommodation and here is what the recruiters have answered:

It didn't specify if I received accommodations or not. Therefore, my question is how likely is it that I receive accommodation? Is it ok if I wrote a follow up email and ask?

This is a tough spot, and I understand why that non-committal response from HR is frustrating. It’s hard enough navigating these assessments without having to deal with the black box of bureaucracy afterward.

Here is the reality of how these large-scale, automated screening processes work: When you are dealing with a standardized online assessment like the Solve, accommodations must almost always be requested, verified, and implemented before you sit for the test. The accommodations aren't designed to retroactively adjust or interpret a score; they are designed to adjust the testing environment (like extended time or modified breaks) to ensure a level playing field at the time of execution.

Because your score is already logged into the system, it is extremely unlikely that McKinsey will grant a retroactive accommodation that invalidates or changes the outcome of your completed Solve assessment. The generic response you received is standard HR procedure when they are acknowledging receipt of sensitive information that requires internal consultation, but it rarely signals that they are going to overturn the already-recorded outcome. The internal governance around standardization is simply too strict to allow for post-test score adjustments.

Should you follow up? Yes, but you need to adjust the focus. Don’t ask them to change your score from the past attempt. Instead, send a polite, clear email confirming that your accommodation request is now permanently documented in their system. This is crucial for future applications. If you must apply again in the next cycle (typically 12–18 months depending on firm policy), you want assurance that the accommodation process will be streamlined and automatic for you next time. Focus on securing the future, as the current application round is likely closed due to the scoring structure.

Write a follow up email and ask. As a general principle of communication, it is always better to have clarity and comfort in confirmation if there's a way to get it.

Honestly, that's a typical corporate email that creates more confusion than clarity :)

Yes, follow-up, since it's not clear from that message what they chose to do.

It’s totally fine to follow up politely to clarify your accommodation request. McKinsey handles these requests case by case, so it’s likely they are reviewing your situation, but a short, courteous email asking for confirmation is perfectly acceptable. Just keep it professional and appreciative.
