McKinsey PST and GMAT

Hello Preplounge family,

I hope all is well. I was wondering if it's possible to practice with GMAT questions such as IR in order to improve my PST score given that I have more than a month to prepare for the test. I scored less than 10 answers correct on my first practice PST. Thank you!

Hi,

IR is the best proxy for GMAT so definitely do that. With the score lower than 10 you probably need 1-3 months to prepare.

I'm currently preparing for the PST using the GMAT, and it is definitely possible. Doing GMAT questions in general will help you build the skills you need for the PST, and the IR specifically is quite similar in style.

Hello!

Yes, it´s a great way

To add on top of what has been said, the best is to practice, practice, practice!

In concrete, with tests, so you can also time yourself, get used to the format, etc.

There are free exams in the internet that you can use for practice (the one of LBS MBA page, Verits prep, as well as some free trials for courses such as the one of The Economist (https://gmat.economist.com/)

The key to success here is not only get practice, but learn techniques.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Dear A,

McKinsey PST is hard, so I recommend starting and tracking your prep using PST materials. If you have good results with PST, other tests are not a problem. For this you can:

• Buy Viktor Cheng test prep program - the best materials I've seen so far.

Keep your math trained with GMAT exercises is always a good idea. Free resourced can be found online, for example:

  • https://www.mba.com/exams/gmat https://www.mba.com/-/media/files/mba2/assessments/2018/gmat/gmat-handbook-2020-07-10.pdf?la=en&hash=9DCAD3E9A43EEE7B520C84327FBEC6F399A72D82

Do the 2nd test and check the score

Also, you can find a good number of PST test online

Best,

André
