MBB Germany

Hi!

I'm wondering if MBB firms in Germany are hiring and what the current job market looks like (is it as bad as it is in the US)? What are the hiring cycles for recent grads like? And how important is fluency in German (are interviewers conducted in German, for example)?

Thinking of going for a program like MBB Offer Machine since I'm really eager to land an offer in Germany, but since it's a steep price tag, I'd love to know more about how realistic my chances are of getting hired at all.

For context: I studied in the US but hold a German passport and am decently fluent in German.

Thank you so much!

Hi there,

Hi there,

Thanks for your message! Here’s a quick overview:

MBB hiring in Germany is still active, though more competitive than usual — not as slow as the U.S., but still selective. Your German passport and solid fluency are definite assets.

Language-wise, most interviews (especially at BCG and Bain) will involve at least one case in German, and client work is usually German-speaking — so being comfortable with business-level fluency is important.

Hiring cycles typically peak in spring and fall, but there's also rolling intake depending on office needs. Apply 4–6 months in advance of your desired start.

Programs like MBB Offer Machine can be helpful if you want structured prep and coaching, but they’re not essential if you’re self-motivated and can access good case prep resources. Your background puts you in a strong position — it’s realistic, with the right preparation.

Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out if you want tailored feedback on your application or prep strategy!

Best,
Evelina

Thanks for your question. I would broadly echo what Evelina has said.

Business fluency in the local language is important, which normally translates to C1 level according to the CEFR framework, with a preference for early-mid C2 level if possible.

MBB Offer Machine is a reputed programme, but if you are budget constrained, it is not a 'must' to get an offer.

Best of luck with your preparation.

hey there,

Yes, MBB Germany is hiring! I have a lot of coachees who are currently getting invited to interviews, so it's definitely possible, just more competitive than before. You do need fluent German though; most interviews are conducted fully in German and many of those who pass are native speakers or near-native. Your German passport and fluency are strong assets, but make sure you're super confident speaking in business German, especially for fit questions and structuring in cases. If you're really committed and prep well, getting an offer is absolutely realistic. Just be honest with yourself about where your German stands now and sharpen it if needed before investing in a big prep program.

best,
Alessa :)
