Hi, I am interested in joining MBB PE practice. Anyone know if this is different from the usual hiring and what do they look out for?
Joining a MBB PE

The process is very similar - you go through a first round of cases in the same way as you do on a general path. However, in the second round you will generally be interviewed by partners in the PE practice with PE cases. The things that they look for are the same as for the generalist path, but they are also looking for your understanding of PE.

Hi there,
Q: Anyone knows if this is different from the usual hiring and what do they look out for?
I helped a few candidates that applied specifically for the PE practices (eg BCG PIPE). In their case, the interview process was the same but they got more PE cases/questions during the interview.
Good luck!
Francesco

Hi there,
The process is essentially identical, but of course there is more of a focus on PE. Make sure you have a clear story as to why you're interested in PE and make sure you've built out your business knowledge/acumen in the topic.

Hi there,
For McKinsey, the hiring process is exactly the same, regardless of practice or function. The cases are also a broad mix.
Have a look below for more prep:
All the best!

The hiring process is almost identical.
At BCG and Bain, you can expect 4 interviews (plus HR), of which 3 with people from the practice and 1 outside.
It is very likely that in at least one of the cases you'll be asked a question on market sizing/estimation and one on PE or M&A.
You have to expect to get asked something about your knowledge of the PE landscape.
I received offers from each of the three MBB PE practices (plus AlixPartners) and I now work in PE, so, happy to help you with coaching sessions, in case.

Hello,
Your process will differ per firm and also differ in you're applying during your MBA vs after your MBA (as a working professional).
I was involved in Bain's PE process during my MBA. From my experience:
1- They do have separate coffee chats and events specifically for PE
2- However, I had the same application that non-PE candidates had
3- The only difference is that you have to explain your interest in PE and why in your Cover Letter, and you should expect to be interviewed by a PE partner in your final round. Thus you need to be well-read about the industry - have a look at Bain's PE report.
All the best!

The same process regardless of the practice.
Good luck!
