Is there a difference in the case interview for undergrad vs MBA/experienced hire?
Are they looking for different things? Or to differentiate the performance?

Hi there,
There is no difference in the interview structure itself for undergrads and MBAs applying for post-undergrad or post-MBA positions – you will still have a structure as:
There are different expectations though. If you have work experience, the interviewer will expect fit examples or business knowledge reflecting your previous years of experience. So the bar will be higher from that point of view.
Not your specific case, but interviews for experienced hires for manager levels and above are different, as:
Hope this helps,
Francesco
Evaluation criteria: Same (e.g. problem solving ability, analytical ability, communication, presence etc. etc)
Evaluation bar: Lower for undergrads
Intake level: Lower for undergrads
Cases: Similar in style
Case interview: Similar in style
Interviewer level: Similar
No.
Cases are the same, across candidates, across rounds. Between rounds they test your ability to respond and improve to feedback from the first to the second round. Across candidates they assess how well you do in the case and what is the maturity of your business knowledge in reference to the role you are applying for.
The one difference you might come across is when you're applying for a specific practice. For instance, if you're applying for an Operations practice within MBB let's say, then do expect to have more cases from that particular area (but also not exclusively from within that area).
As a general rule, the cases are the same, but a higher performance level is expected in both case and fit considerations.
Some consulting firms will use a “mini-case” for undergrads (which is basically a regular case but a bit shorter / less questions), so you may have a longer case as an MBA/experienced hire.
Note: for experiencecd hire I am assuming someone with 2-3 years of experience or more.
Hi there,
The format/style, content, and evaluation criteria are all the same! Expectations (such as communication and business/world knowledge) are obviously higher for an MBA/Experienced hire!
Nope. The business case is the same whether you apply for Business Analyst, Associate or even Manager.
Of course the degree of tolerance for mistakes is a bit different.
In addition, I would argue that at a junior level being analytical and good with quants is more important, while for more senior levels the fact that you can structure a problem etc. is kind of given for granted and your personal fit, motivation, leadership skills matter more.
No difference in type of cases and honestly even expectations. I have seen BA recruiting is often more intense from a casing perspective as your odds are much lower vs MBA candidates. The main difference comes in the PEI part where MBA students will be expected to have more depth in the stories and more relevant experiences to draw from.
Best,
