Internal referral & second application to the same role

Hi All,

I have a question about internal recommendations at BCG. Last week, I submitted an application to BCG. Three days later, I also received an internal recommendation for the same position. Is there a way to link that recommendation to my existing application?

Also I am thinking to submit a new application using the internal recommendation but with a different email.

Any thoughts or  suggestions on the same are appreciated.

Hi,

Sharing my perspective having had / heard of a similar experience before during my time at BCG

  • Once the application is in the system, you have already applied and this is recorded in the Applicant Tracking System
  • When we were giving referrals, we were told that we had to make a referral before the application process started
  • If you had already applied, if someone recommended you then what it could do is create a higher chance of your CV being reviewed / considered carefully (however your contact will not be eligble for the referral bonus)

I would suggest to not create a new application. If you have already applied and your CV has not been reviewed yet, then the recommendation will still be useful.

Hi there,

First of all, congrats on your recommendation. It is not explicit in your message but I am assuming these are 2 different positions, correct? The one you applied for and the one you got recommended for?

Looking forward to reading you.

It is the same position in BCG in both the cases.

Hi there

1) Last week, I submitted an application to BCG. Three days later, I also received an internal recommendation for the same position. Is there a way to link that recommendation to my existing application?

I would recommend contacting HR and ask if they can help with that. Most likely the person referring you won’t get any bonus in case you are hired, if present, given you applied before the referral. However, the referral might still be linked to your application.

2) Also I am thinking to submit a new application using the internal recommendation but with a different email.

There is the risk that this might be seen as circumventing the system. I know cases where candidates applied with a different email and they were identified as the same candidate regardless, so I would not recommend doing so.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

You need to directly reach out to the recruiters with this. Additionally, check with the person that referred you. Systems are generally clunky and prone to error so your best bet is speaking with someone (added benefit - you put a face to the name for them!)

When it comes to linking an internal recommendation to your existing application, it's best to reach out to the BCG recruitment team directly. They will have the necessary information and processes in place to ensure that your recommendation is properly linked to your application. This will help ensure that your application is considered in the most comprehensive and efficient manner.

As for submitting a new application using the internal recommendation but with a different email, I would advise against doing so. It's important to maintain transparency and integrity throughout the application process. Creating a new application with a different email may lead to confusion and could potentially be seen as an attempt to manipulate the system.

Instead, I recommend contacting the BCG recruitment team and informing them about the internal recommendation you received. They will guide you on the best course of action to ensure that your application is properly considered, taking into account the recommendation you have received.

Contact HR.

There's no way to link them from the outside. And the referral process differs a lot from firm to firm and office to office.

You need to mention that you applied, when and your details and then provide the same for your referee.

Then HR will be able to connect them. Aim to do it ASAP to ensure that they review your application together with the referral.

Best,
Cristian

You should sort this with HR. Just highlight you got the referral, and if there's anything you need to do to make sure it is flagged when your application is reviewed.

Hi there,

Check with both HR and your contact how to link your application and referral. After doing this you'll probably see no need to send a second application.

Best,

Alberto
