Imbellus tower defense questions

Hi all, I have a few questions on the rules of the tower defense part of the imbellus game, and would appreciate it if anyone could share some insights!

1. Is there a limit to the number and species of defenders that you can overlap in the same square? (can you place 2 or 3 defenders of the same species in the same square, or 3 different species of defenders in the same square?)

2. Can invaders overlap in the same square? Or is there an algorithm that monitors and interactively alters invaders' paths to keep them from appearing in the same square at the same time? If they do overlap, how are defenders' damages applied? Say if a rat (100) and a fox (100) simultaneously enter a square with 2 snakes (50*2), what happens in the next turn? Will it be a rat (100) left, a fox (100) left, a rat (50) and a fox (50) left, or no threats left?

3. Will defenders ever be consumed and disappear? If I place a coyote (30 damages) in a square,  does it mean that it will apply 30 damages to every invader passing through its range in each of all the 15+ turns? Or will the coyote be diminished once it applies 30 damages to the first invader it meets?

Hi there,

1) Is there a limit to the number and species of defenders that you can overlap in the same square? (can you place 2 or 3 defenders of the same species in the same square, or 3 different species of defenders in the same square?)

You can put just one defender on a square. However you can put a defender over a barrier.

2) Can invaders overlap in the same square? Or is there an algorithm that monitors and interactively alters invaders' paths to keep them from appearing in the same square at the same time? If they do overlap, how are defenders' damages applied? Say if a rat (100) and a fox (100) simultaneously enter a square with 2 snakes (50*2), what happens in the next turn? Will it be a rat (100) left, a fox (100) left, a rat (50) and a fox (50) left, or no threats left?

In theory invaders should never overlap, given that by definition they appear at the border in different turns. If two invaders appear in the same area of influence of a defender during the same turn, the defender will inflict damages to both.

3) Will defenders ever be consumed and disappear? If I place a coyote (30 damages) in a square,  does it mean that it will apply 30 damages to every invader passing through its range in each of all the 15+ turns? Or will the coyote be diminished once it applies 30 damages to the first invader it meets?

The defender will always stay where you positioned it without changes, from the moment it becomes active until the map is completed.

Hi there,

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Defenders cannot overlap in the same square. However, please bare in mind that the area of influence can (and even should) overlap.
  • In theory, invaders might cross paths even if they appear on the edges of the map. However, I have so far not heard of invaders crossing paths. Eventually, it would not change anything since both would be affected by damage of defenders or slowed by terrains.
  • Your defenders will remain in the same spot where you positioned them for the remaining 15+ rounds. However, when the new map appears, the settings are reset.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for the McKinsey Imbellus in an interactive, efficient way without reading lengthy guides, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hi there,

Just to add to the other answers here, I highly recommend you good tower defense games and play a few!

All of your questions are “classic” tower defense game rules. If you spend some time playing them you'll have a lot of your questions cleared up :)
