Has anyone noticed consulting firms avoiding Graduate visa holders due to future sponsorship concerns?

Hi everyone

I’m currently on the UK Graduate visa, which allows full-time work without sponsorship and my Visa is not running out anytime soon. I’ve recently been told by a consulting firm that they wouldn’t consider me because I might need sponsorship in the future, even though I don’t need it now.

I’m wondering if this is a new, wider trend in consulting? Have others experienced the same? Is it now common for firms to filter out candidates just based on potential future visa needs, even if they’re fully eligible to work right now?

Unfortunately, that’s pretty normal for the UK. London is a very competitive market, and needing visa sponsorship (which basically means extra hassle for the employer) doesn’t really work in a candidate’s favor, especially in consulting, where there are hundreds of applicants for each spot who don’t require sponsorship.

Hey there,

Unfortunately it's a tough market in the UK and what you've described is quite common. Even MBBs will encourage you to apply for your local office instead.

To my knowledge all MBBs and Tier 2 consulting firms (Big 4, OW etc.) sponsor visas. Beyond that it's quite rare.

It does happen, especially in sub-par market conditions like this.

Outside of MBBs and top boutiques, many consulting firms will not sponsor a visa unless there is a good reason for them to do so.
