Is 3.7/4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering at a target school high enough to be competitive MBB? It is a target school only in the southeast so not an ivy league
GPA

Hello there,
A 3.7/4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering at a target school in the Southeast should be good GPA for MBB. However, it is not the only factor that MBB will consider when evaluating candidates. They will also look at your work experience, extracurricular activities, and the strength of your application materials.
Here are some things you can do to increase your chances of getting an interview with MBB:
- Get involved in extracurricular activities that demonstrate your leadership and teamwork skills
- Have relevant work experience for example an internship at a consulting firm
- Draft a strong resume and cover letter
- Practice case interviews with a friend, MBB consultant, and / or case coach
- Network with people who work at MBB and try to get a referral if possible
Hope this is useful!

Hi,
A 3.7 GPA is definitely good - but the more importantly you must understand that GPA is only one consideration factor MBB looks at.
It is never just a sole assessment on GPA, other experiences such as your work/internship experience, leadership and other achievements also come into play.
All the best!

Hi there,
it depends a bit on how that compares against other candidates in your cohort. If it puts you in the top 10-20% of your school, usually should be fine from an academic standpoint.
Note, however, that GPA is only one of various screening criteria the firms look at - MBB firms expect well-rounded profiles with strong acedemics, relevant work experience, strong leadership / extracurricular footprint and international exposure, to name a few.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Andi

Hi there,
Yes that GPA is a fine GPA for applications. But, remember, there is a lot more to the application (other work/internship experience, overall resume, cover letter, networking, etc.)

Hi there!
It's not bad but it's not great either.
Regardless, GPA is not a make it or break it thing.
What you need istead is to make sure that you have a CV that is putting all your strengths in the spotlight.
For instance, if your GPA was low, you could focus instead of highlighting whether you had a particularly good result in one specific course (rather than the degree overall).
Recruiters look for signs of excellence, so you need to make these super obvious in the CV.
They also can only see what you show them. So make sure that you prioritise showing the things that elevate your value proposition, not things that raise questions.
Sharing with you a guide you might find useful in terms of how to build an application strategy considering now it's a rather tough time for recruiting:
Best,
Cristian

Hi there,
Q: Is 3.7/4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering at a target school high enough to be competitive MBB?
That’s fine in terms of GPA. Your CV should also cover additional elements needed for consulting, mainly as:
- Relevant work experience
- Relevant extracurricular experience
The structure you use to present the experience you have is also important. If possible I would recommend a structure based on actions taken and results achieved.
Finally, you might want to find a referral to strengthen your application. You can find more on that below:

Good luck!
