Final round interview with partner KPMG strategy and operations FS - what to expect?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in the final round of an application process for a Consultant Strategy & Operations role at KPMG. I have my last interview coming up with a Partner and a Managing Consultant.

According to the recruiter, this round is meant to “get to know me personally” and understand my motivation for the role. I’m wondering what I should realistically expect from this conversation. Is this usually more of a formality at this stage?

If anyone has gone through a similar final-round interview at KPMG (or other Big Four firms), I’d really appreciate hearing your experience, especially regarding the tone of the conversation, the types of questions they ask, and how much weight this round carries in the final decision.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on getting to the final round!

That's an achievement in and of itself.

Typically, by this point, they will have already confirmed your ability to do the job. As in, you've probably had case interviews which went well, and now they are less interested in the technical or skill-related aspects of your profile, and more about fit.

So, this will be the focus of this round - fit. Whether you're coming in with the right motivation and mindset into the KPMG culture.

To prepare, I would do the following:

  • Practice personal fit questions that are motivation, situational and story based. In particular, make sure that you have a sharp 'value proposition' 1 minute pitch you can provide.
  • Reflect on the feedback provided in the previous rounds and see if you can demonstrate improvement in this last round. Typically, they want to see that you've worked on the comment already received earlier in the process
  • Research the Partner and consultant you will be speaking with and prepare some questions for the conversation.

If you need help, reach out. I've also prepared a tailored material for personal fit interview, which many candidates find useful. More about it here:

Best,

At this stage it is largely a fit and motivation conversation, but do not treat it as a formality. Final round Partner conversations still carry real weight, candidates do get filtered out here.
Expect a more informal tone than the earlier rounds, more of a general conversation. Be ready for broad macro topics, recent industry trends, your view on the firm and the practice area, and why this role specifically. They are checking whether you fit the team and whether you can hold your own in a senior conversation. Show genuine motivation for KPMG and the Strategy and Operations practice (not just consulting in general), and have a clear point of view on a couple of macro or industry topics relevant to their work. Confidence and conversational ease matter as much as the answers themselves.

hello!

A partner‑round at KPMG S&O FS is usually personal, conversational, and decisive, but not a formality. They already know you can do the job; now they want to see whether they’d trust you with clients and whether you fit the team.

Expect a calm discussion about your motivation, what drives you, how you work with people, and why FS and S&O make sense for you. They may test your judgment with a light scenario, but nothing like a full case. Tone is friendly but evaluative, they’re checking maturity, clarity, and whether you’d represent the firm well.
