A referral does matter quite a lot (even though it’s not a golden ticket), and that is true for any consulting company, anywhere. In practice, it helps your CV get attention and be looked at more carefully.
Also, not all referrals are equal. A strong, credible referral (someone who knows you and can vouch for you) carries much more weight than a generic one.

A referral does not guarantee an interview but it usually means your CV actually gets read rather than sitting in the general applicant pool. That alone is a meaningful edge given the large pipeline for most major firms.
