A referral does matter quite a lot (even though it’s not a golden ticket), and that is true for any consulting company, anywhere. In practice, it helps your CV get attention and be looked at more carefully.

Also, not all referrals are equal. A strong, credible referral (someone who knows you and can vouch for you) carries much more weight than a generic one.

Short answer yes. Not just for London but for any office.

Most major firms have an internal referral system that is incentivized to bring the right candidates through the pipeline. A referral does not guarantee an interview but it usually means your CV actually gets read rather than sitting in the general applicant pool. That alone is a meaningful edge given the large pipeline for most major firms.
