McKinsey campus recruit: Did I get screened out before Imbellus game?

Hi there

I’m an undergraduate student in US. I applied for BA intern role last summer at my home country. Passed the Imbellus game and failed at first round interview.

this year I applied to US office with a referral from an alumni analyst and it’s been a week and i have not received invitation to the Imbellus game.

question:

1. Am I subject to a ban for campus recruiting since I failed the intern application?

2. Is Imbellus game valid for a year so I don’t have to do it?

3. How likely it is that I did not pass the screening.

thanks a lot for the help

Hi there,

First of all, be patient! 1 week is nothing at all!

1. Am I subject to a ban for campus recruiting since I failed the intern application?

Nope!

2. Is Imbellus game valid for a year so I don’t have to do it?

Generally, yes!

3. How likely it is that I did not pass the screening.

24.35%

Jokes aside, we honestly have no idea. Even if we saw your resume, we don't know! Your odds are probably “good” given that you passed the last time and have gained experience + a referral (albeit a low level one). Time will tell.

While you wait, make sure to prepare yourself so you don't mess up the interview next time around!

Hi there,

1) Am I subject to a ban for campus recruiting since I failed the intern application?

In theory you should not have a ban. Usually for interns the ban is one year, although it may depend on the office

2) Is Imbellus game valid for a year so I don’t have to do it?

Yes, usually it lasts for 1 year.

3) How likely it is that I did not pass the screening.

Impossible to answer without knowing more about your profile. Even knowing that, it would be hard to have a proper estimate.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Here's my take on your questions:

1. Am I subject to a ban for campus recruiting since I failed the intern application?

If you failed at the interview stage, you're banned for typically 1 year for the same position. Hence, it depends whether or not 1 year has passed and whether or not you're applying for the same position.

2. Is Imbellus game valid for a year so I don’t have to do it?

Correct

3. How likely it is that I did not pass the screening.

Can't possibly be answered! However, considering that you were interviewed last year and assuming that you added some relevant items on your CV since then, you should be in a good position to be re-invited with a referral application.

Time will tell, so be patient! Best of luck!
