Delivery Consultant London steps

Hi all,

I am applying to a Delivery Consultant role for McKinsey in London. I completed the Solve test a couple of weeks ago and is now having an interview with the Mckinsey recruiter in the next few days. They said it's only 15min to learn about me and career aspirations. I'm trying to prepare for this interview but realise this doesn't follow any of the normal process described online (i e Solve then 2 rounds of interviews etc). Does anyone know if this is normal? And how should I prepare for this interview?

Hi,

This sounds like a screening call, done by the recruiting team/HR.

I would treat it as a mini-fit interview. It's just as they have briefed you - they want to know about your background and your aspirations to confirm how strong a fit you are for the role/firm.

I wouldn't be to worried about this, but I would still make sure my stories are concise and impactful enough for the typical question - e.g. why this role, why now, why McK, etc

Hi there,

Congrats on reaching the recruiter call—it’s a standard phone screening for experienced hires.

What to expect:

  • A 15–30 min call to review your résumé, motivations, and fit for McKinsey in London—not a case interview.
  • If all goes well, you'll be invited to full interview rounds: typically 2–4 sessions combining case studies and personal‐experience interviews (PEI) with senior team members.

How to prepare:

  1. Polish your pitch – Quick CV summary + why delivery consulting, why McKinsey, why London.
  2. Have motivation answers ready – “Why consulting?”, “Why McKinsey?”, “Why now/London?”
  3. One strong PEI example – Use STAR to tell a concise story of leadership or impact.
  4. Prepare questions – Ask about the role, success factors in the office, or project environment.
  5. Get logistics right – Quiet space, good connection, minimal distractions.

This is a recruiter screening to confirm your fit. Next come full rounds with case + PEI.

Feel free to reach out if you need any further help!

Best,

Evelina
