Consulting Internship Interviews at Arthur D. Little, Stern Stewart, OC&C and Simon-Kucher

Diese vier Firmen verlangen nicht dieselbe Vorbereitung, und das ist die Entscheidung, die vor deinem ersten Übungscase steht. Cases spiegeln in der Regel das, was eine Firma tatsächlich verkauft, und bei diesen vier heißt das vier recht unterschiedliche Schwerpunkte.

So würde ich die Vorbereitung aufteilen:

• Bei Simon-Kucher würde ich jeden Case so lange als Pricing Case behandeln, bis das Gegenteil bewiesen ist. Der quantitative Teil steht dort im Zentrum, nicht am Rand.
• Bei Stern Stewart würde ich mich auf Kapitalrendite und Wertbeitrag einstellen statt auf Umsatz und Marge. Die Firma ist über wertorientierte Steuerung und EVA groß geworden, und das prägt erfahrungsgemäß die Fragestellungen.
• Bei OC&C rechne mit Konsumgütern und Handel, dazu mit Marktgrößenbestimmung. Übe hier vor allem Kopfrechnen unter Zeitdruck, weil der Zahlenteil selten der angenehme Teil ist.
• Arthur D. Little liegt am weitesten von den anderen dreien entfernt: technisch und industrienah. Übe dort Cases, bei denen die Lösung selbst technischer Natur ist.

Für Übungspartner ist das Meeting Board hier der schnellere Weg als dieser Thread. Am meisten bringt dir jemand, der bei einer anderen dieser vier Firmen antritt, weil du dann zwei Case Stile siehst statt einen zweimal. Struktur und Kopfrechnen tragen dich durch alle vier. Der firmenspezifische Teil entscheidet nur, wo du zusätzlich nachschärfst.

First, don't overcomplicate this by trying to find the exact case each company is going to give you.

You should be able to solve a case regardless of whether it comes from Arthur D. Little, Stern Stewart, OC&C, Simon-Kucher, McKinsey, etc.

Prepare for all the major skills and case types. Profitability, growth, market entry, M&A, operations, pricing, brainstorming, math, charts, etc.

For Simon-Kucher specifically, I would make sure you're particularly comfortable with pricing. Know how to think through willingness to pay, competitor benchmarking and cost based pricing.

More broadly, research what each company actually does. If you understand their industries and typical work, you'll naturally be better prepared for the types of discussions you're likely to have.

But be ready for anything. The goal isn't to predict the case. It's to learn how to solve whatever problem they put in front of you.

The more varied the cases you practise, the less you'll care what any particular interviewer throws at you.

Für alle vier würd ich vor allem klassische Case Basics üben: saubere Strukturierung, Market Sizing, Profitabilität, Pricing und etwas Brainstorming. Bei Simon Kucher würde ich zusätzlich besonders Pricing und Commercial Cases vorbereiten, bei ADL und OC&C eher Strategie und Marktanalyse.

Konkrete Cases aus alten Interviews sind natürlich hilfreich, aber wichtiger ist, dass du mit verschiedenen Case-Typen sicher umgehen kannst. Gemeinsam mit anderen zu üben ist dafür ebenfalls super.

Build one strong common foundation, then add a small firm-specific layer. Across all four interviews, you need tailored structuring, clean calculations, exhibit interpretation, commercial judgment and a concise recommendation. Do not try to predict the exact case.

Research each firm's current work, industries and interview guidance. Use that to choose extra practice rather than a separate preparation system. For Simon-Kucher, add pricing and commercial cases. For the other firms, use a balanced mix of profitability, growth, market entry, operations and market sizing unless recruiting gives more specific guidance.

Run cases with partners who will score individual skills, not just whether you reached the answer. After every mock, record one structural mistake, one analytical mistake and one communication improvement. If the interviews may be in German, practise the full case in German, including math narration and synthesis. A partner preparing for a different firm can be useful because the variation tests adaptability.
