Best free resources (YouTube/playlist) to learn consulting end-to-end?

I’m aiming to become a strategy/business consultant targeting firms like McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group, and Bain & Company.

I’m looking for free, structured resources (preferably YouTube playlists or channels) that cover the full journey, including:

  • Business fundamentals
  • Structured thinking (MECE, issue trees)
  • Growth & strategy concepts
  • Case interview preparation
  • Real consulting mindset

Ideally something that feels like a step-by-step curriculum, not random videos.

Would appreciate recommendations for:

  • One main channel/playlist (if possible)
  • Or a minimal set of resources that together cover everything

Hey, thanks for your question. I have to say, it's one I get a lot, especially from my American students.

The reality, in my opinion, is that the reason PrepLounge and other platforms are so successful is exactly because studying for MBB case interviews is very different from everything else. It's a highly active type of studying where you actually have to try things out. You need to practice structuring your thoughts in a MECE way and communicating them clearly. You have to practice doing market sizing (crunching the numbers and stating the results out loud). And you need to be able to manage the communication, because a case isn't something you solve on your own; you do it by picking up on hints and properly understanding the information coming from the interviewer.

For this reason, I think case interview prep is very different from other subjects you might just study on YouTube. It's not like a history lesson where you can just take notes on what is being said, memorize it, and repeat it. It's an approach based entirely on planning, testing yourself, failing, and learning through that process. So, I honestly don't recommend using YouTube as your primary resource.

I want to be very transparent here: I'm not saying this because I think coaching is strictly necessary :)  It really depends on the individual. For many people, simply practicing with other peers who are also prepping is enough. But YouTube alone just won't cut it.

However, if you do want to do some passive listening (and keep it as an important part of the preparation), I highly recommend looking up the audio or video content by Victor Cheng. He is an American coach who shares recordings of actual cases he's run with his clients. There, you can listen to how a case is handled, judge for yourself whether the candidate did a good or bad job, and then hear Victor's feedback.

That being said, even in that scenario, I think the best way to utilize those recordings is to try and actively solve the case alongside Victor and his coachee :)

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

Just remember... you get what you pay for. You really want to spend $0 for a million dollar opportunity?

I get the instinct to go free. But free YouTube playlists will only take you so far. The consulting recruiting process is highly structured and highly competitive. The candidates who get offers aren't the ones who cobbled together the most free content. They're the ones who invested in real, structured preparation.

If you want to learn consulting from start to finish, I built a course for exactly this. 100+ videos covering applications, networking, cases, behavioral, and offer negotiation. All in one place, not scattered across 10 different sources: Consulting & Recruiting 360 Course

If you're specifically focused on applications right now, start here first: Applications Course

And if you want a lot of this in audio format, search The Consulting Offer Blueprint on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. Good free starting point.

But seriously... don't let cost be the reason you don't get the offer. The ROI on structured prep is enormous relative to what's on the other side.

Fingers crossed!

I'm afraid that doesn't quite exist.

As in, you can find lots of materials for free, but they don't give you the full journey.

That's also because the full journey is a full knowledge download and it's also a tailored path meant to close the gaps specific to you. And that requires time and expertise, which is why there's a fee associated with it.

However, if you're willing to let go of the expectations of a structured journey, and just want materials to practice, those you'll find quite easily.

A great resource is the case library here on the website, and the 'case interview basics' section.

If you need any help, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Best,
Cristian

hey there :)

honestly, there isn’t one perfect “end-to-end” playlist, but a very clean combo works well. for core case skills and structured thinking, I’d focus on Crafting Cases, I’m personally a big fan, the explanations are very clear and practical.

to complement that, add Management Consulted for fundamentals and Firm Learning for more advanced case walkthroughs.

if you go through those consistently and actually practice alongside, you’ll cover pretty much everything end to end.

best,
Alessa :)

McKinsey-Alumni, over 50 ASC interviews | 15% off first lesson | MBB + FAANG preparation

heya, for free YouTube resources, Jeff H Shen and IGotAnOffer together cover structured thinking, case frameworks, and real interview walkthroughs end-to-end. IGotAnOffer's case interview playlist is the most structured free curriculum available — start there. For consulting mindset and strategy concepts, Firm Learning fills the gaps.

Hi Millad,

I agree with the other coaches here: YouTube playlists can be helpful, but they’re usually not the most effective primary method to prepare for case interviews.

If you’re looking for a more step-by-step, structured way to build your foundation, I’d strongly recommend going through our Case Interview Basics. We’ve designed it as a guided curriculum that walks you through everything progressively:

I hope this helps.
