BCG Rejection After R2

I recently finished R2 with BCG and got a rejection via a standard template email (no call, no personalized note).

I’ve already emailed the recruiter once to thank them and ask whether any feedback could be shared, but I haven’t heard anything since.

For those who went through something similar:

• Did you eventually receive feedback?

• Did you reach out again, or contact your interviewers directly?

• What timing or approach worked for you (or didn’t)?

Trying to understand whether I should follow up again or just move on.

Hi there,

Firstly, I'm sorry to hear that you received a rejection.

Regarding your situation - it is indeed a strange one. The MBB firms really pride themselves on being quick in their recruiting process, and ensuring personalized feedback at each step. This is baked into the process at these firms - i.e., when a round is done and a decision has been reached, the recruiters assign a specific interviewer (e.g., Partner) to reach out to the candidate to share the decision and feedback.

I could theorize as to why they've conducted themselves differently this time, but as I don't know, it does not seem very helpful.

Thus, let me focus on what I'd advice instead:

You invested a lot of time and effort into this process, and I believe you should get proper feedback for your efforts + that could obviously be helpful to your potential future efforts. Thus, I would definitely push to receive feedback.

Thus, I would reach out again to the recruiter and push for an answer. Obviously, make sure you keep the email positive and polite, to ensure that they actually want to respond. Also, please give them at least 1 business week to respond, they may of course be in the middle of a very busy recruiting period.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Thor

I'm sorry to hear.

Unfortunately, the feedback process is not uniform across offices. In some offices they are really proactive about it, in others you really have to chase them.

But it's good that you followed up on it. If you do connect with them and the feedback is generic, ask them politely to provide specific situations. This will give you clear areas to work on afterwards.

Best of luck with your other applications and feel free to reach out directly if you have any questions.

Please understand that many times the feedback they share is not that useful. You can reach out a couple of times. After that, if they don't reply to the 2nd email, they won't reply at all. Let them be and move on.

Hi there,

It’s pretty common for BCG to send a generic rejection after R2 and not follow up with detailed feedback, even when candidates ask. Some offices share feedback, others don’t, and sometimes it just depends on bandwidth.

Your best move now is to send one short note to your interviewer or main contact asking if they can share one or two areas to focus on for next time. Keep it light and appreciative. If you don’t hear back, it’s usually not personal and just means they can’t provide more. After that, it’s fine to move on and revisit the firm when you’re eligible to reapply.
