My profile - I have close to 8 years experience in supply chain, operations, e-commerce strategy in leading MNCs and moderately successful Star up , no MBA
I had my BCG final round ( 4th interview / 2nd MDP interview) during 2nd week of September with one of the managing partners.
Initially there was no response from BCG. I reached out to the HR last week and I was told that my cases went well, however my last interviewer felt that I have a very heavy experience on supply chain / operations side and recommended HR to get me to talk to one of the senior partners from that faculty.
However I have not heard back from them yet?
Should I consider this as mostly a rejection? or are they considering me for an expert track instead of a consultant track? If thats the case any pros and cons I should be aware of?
BCG Final Round

Definitely not a rejection.
They are considering you for an expert/ specialized role given your specific expertise. If you are assigned to this role, then of course you will specialize in this industry. Pros and cons depend on what types of projects you want to do. My general advice is, as you become more senior in consulting, it's better to be more specialized - especially as you reach to Manager level and beyond. You bring more value to the client and your “stress level” reduces (it can be quite overwhelming to learn completely new industries as you become more senior).
Wish you the best!

Don't worry, they like you!
It's clear they want you to join the firm, they're just trying to find the right spot for you.
There's going to be some coordination/logistical/political wrangling here so you just need to be patient.
Signs are pointing upward so just stay patient and let them work it out!

Hi!
I wouldn't consider it a rejection!
The most important consideration to make wrt to generalist vs specialist is whether you like the field you would work in. There are of course other differences but understanding this matter is of crucial importance.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Anto

Hi there. This is not a rejection (if BCG wants to reject you, they won’t be this subtle :)). Based on what you said, I believe they‘re trying to see whether you’d be more suitable as an expert in the practice mentioned. There is no obvious pros and cons if you’re comparing expert track to consultant track, except that expert will be staffed more to projects related to your expertise. In terms of ranks and career progress, they would have different titles but essentially it’s the same rank. For example, expert is equivalent to associate, senior expert is equivalent to associate partner, etc.
Hope this helps!

Hey there,
It seems like they consider you to be a strong fit for a particular track / role within the firm.
Now from the outside, it appears to be a scheduling / organizational issue of getting one of the relevant partners to look at your case or even arrange another interview (which would likely just be about personal fit and not a case again if your performances so far were good).
As for the intricacies of the generalist vs. expert track in BCG, I let some of my BCG colleagues provide some more insights here. :-)
Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
Cheers,
Florian

They like you but are trying to find the right FIT. So , this is good in my view reading in between the lines.
Be patient for another couple of weeks, if not nudge them.

Quite the opposite, this is a sign of strong interest. My reading is that the managing partner (who interviewed you) is willing to give you an offer but considers that you might be better suited for a different role.
Scheduling sometimes takes long when you are dealing with the upper ranks.
Regarding pros and cons… it depends on whether you want to specialize on that or not. At some point you will have to specialize anyway, so it would mean you start earlier. The possibility of starting at a higher rank in the specialist role is also possible.

Reconsideration of profiles is not unheard and is definitely a possibility. Depending on the office location some expert tracks might be more sensible v/s some others. I've recently had a supply-chain expert coachee get into the Middle-East.
So just wait it out a bit - have patience, maybe follow-up a bit if you need to.

Hello,
This is not a rejection, it seems like they are trying to find a position that best fits you within the firm. I would be patient and I am sure they will be reaching out soon (senior partners tend to be very busy). Regarding expert track vs. generalist consultant track, I would have a detailed conversation with HR about what these two tracks might look like for you, if they initiate a conversation with you about it.
