Atypic profile - Inverto what are the chances ?

Hello everyone,

I regularly see job openings for Inverto and I am wondering about my real chances of joining the firm with my background.

My profile in brief:

I do not come from a traditional consulting background.
I have 4 years of industry experience in a major FMCG company as SCM, followed by various roles in Customer service, Sales and Marketing.
International backrgound I have lived in different countries and speak 3 languages fluently.
I graduated with my Master's degree 10 years ago.

What makes me hesitate Inverto explicitly asks for university transcripts. My university was not "prestigious" and my grades aren't through the roof (even though I was ranked in the top 10 of my class). After 10 years in the workforce, I worry this academic criterion might penalize me or automatically filter my application out.

My questions for the coaches or anyone familiar with the firm:

Do you think my hands-on FMCG experience and international profile can compensate for "average" academic records after 10 years of professional life? Are grades still a dealbreaker for experienced profiles?
The application form also asks for expected salary. Is this standard practice for them right at the application stage, and what is the best way to handle this without closing any doors?

I really want to avoid submitting a weak application and getting dismissed. What do you advise?

Hi Alvaro,

I regularly work with INVERTO candidates and, coincidentally, I'm coaching one right now.

Grades are important, but I noticed that you mention having graduated 10 years ago. If you also have roughly 10 years of professional experience, then in my opinion the relevance of your academic performance becomes much more marginal than it would be for a recent graduate.

What would be more interesting to understand is what you've done during those 10 years. In your post, you mainly mention 4 years in Supply Chain within a major FMCG company, which is actually quite relevant.

Generally speaking, for experienced hires I would expect recruiters to place much more weight on:

The quality and relevance of your professional experience
The progression of your career
Your leadership and stakeholder management exposure
How well your background aligns with the type of projects INVERTO delivers

Without seeing the full profile it's difficult to give a definitive view, but based on what you've shared, I would not assume that average grades from 10 years ago are a dealbreaker.

Your profile has real upside for Inverto.

On grades after 10 years, far less of a dealbreaker than you think. For experienced hires, professional track record carries way more weight than transcripts. Your 4 years in FMCG SCM is exactly the operator profile they value.

Inverto is BCG's procurement and SCM specialist. They hire people who understand supply chains from the inside, not just frameworks.

What strengthens your CV. Lead with SCM expertise, quantify cost savings and supplier wins. Highlight 3 languages and multi-country experience. Frame varied roles as commercial breadth.

On expected salary, give a range. "Currently around €X, looking for €Y to €Z, open to discussion." Doesn't close doors.

You might know already, but Inverto focuses on supply chain and procurement, and they are more implementation-oriented.

If you can draw parallels between your past experience and the elements above, then you should be in a strong position. The critical thing is to make these clear in your application package, and ideally to also get a referral to increase your chances of passing screening.

short answer: yes, you have a real chance at Inverto, and no, your grades won’t block you after ten years of experience.

Inverto cares far more about hands‑on procurement, supply chain, FMCG exposure, and international experience than about old transcripts. They ask for grades because it’s part of their standard process, not because they use them as a hard filter for senior profiles. Your background, four years in FMCG across SCM, sales, customer service, plus languages and international mobility, is exactly the kind of operational credibility they like. The transcript won’t outweigh that.

For salary expectations, it’s normal that they ask early. The safest approach is to give a range aligned with market benchmarks and add that you’re open to discussing based on role and level. That keeps every door open.
