Are offer decisions at MBB made by the partners, or by HR based on feedback forms?

I’m curious how this works. Do partners get together and discuss, or do they fill out a form, send it to HR, and then HR calculates a “score” based on the feedback of all interviews upon which the decision is made?

The two possibilities are way different. If it’s based on a score from interview feedback forms, it’s more objective. If the partners get together and decide, then it’s more like a jury deliberation, where they can convince each other and decisions can be more somewhat subjective.

Hi,

The offer is decided by the last round interviewers coordinated by HR.

Then it's usually one of the partners you've seen that calls you.

Hi there,

Do the best you can on each interview. Period.

After the interview no amount of thinking about it will change the outcome.

I know, easier said than done.

If one interviewer does not want to hire you, then they won't. They *might* have a 3rd round but it's unlikely.

If the 2nd one is on the fence, they still may not hire. They are more likely to hire (if the other is a strong believer and has sway) and they are also more likely to have a 3rd round.

Whether this happens via feedback firms, HR, partners, etc., does this change anything you do? Nope! Perform the besr you can

P.S. The Partners decide. But it's based on a clear rubric/assessment/scores.

Hi,

Interview decisions are always subjective. It's just the way the wold works. Your formal case / fit interview performance may be really good, but if the interviewer doesn't like your personality, you'll still get rejected.

Regarding your question: the interviewers use scorecards to assess your performance using multiple criteria which they then pass to an HR. The final decision is made collectively by all interviewers, not the HR. Usually you need the approval of all the interviewers to get the offer, but, say, if one of the interviewers is on the fence, you may get an additional round. And the final decision, in this case, is made depending on the last interviewer's feedback.

Regards,
Nick

Partners make the decision, HR drives the process.

It really doesn't matter whether they fill in a form or not. End of the day each interviewer has to give a POV on your score/result/decision. Multiple scenarios could happen even if forms are filled in, e.g. the 2 forms could have differing scores and then HR gathers the interviewers to come to alignment.

The interviewers of the final round all have to agree on extending an offer to a candidate. If two say yes and one says no, there will be a discussion. The final decision usually has to be aligned with all parties involved. HR just facilitates the discussion and might provide some additional feedback on how the candidate performed in earlier rounds (if relevant).

Hi!

Great question.

The decision is made by the interviewers.

Specifically, by the final interviewers together with the Hiring Partner from that office (in some situations the Hiring Partner is one of the interviewers in the last round).

Once you're past screening, HR has more of an administrative role in the process. They can also inform the senior interviewers how the pipeline is looking like (i.e., whether there are more candidates that are relevant for the role who are being interviewed soon), but they don't take the final decision on extending on offer or not.

Good luck!
Cristian

Hi there,

All first and second round recruiters gather together to take the final hiring decision. They will look for consensus and anyone has voice to veto your progress to next round. Recruiter is also present in the decision call to make sure everyone has equal weight in the final decision.

You can check how the recruiting process works from an internal MBB perspective here: https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/mbb-hiring-hacks-behind-the-curtain-secrets
