Apply in parallel?

Hi,

I had passed McKinsey rounds few months ago and was then postponed because of headcounting limitations in the practice I had applied to. So I am waiting for the offer but this waiting can in principle last quite long.

My question to the experts is if I should apply to another position of similar level (it is Associate in my case) in parallel? Does it make sense at all? Or as far as I am in the pipeline already I will be realigned into another practice once possible?

Hi there,

My experience with McKinsey is that they typically will honour those offers. However, depending on how anxiety inducing this process is for you/you have a timeline for you moving you might want to apply other places in parallel.

Either way, I would encourage you to stay in regular contact with the team/your interviewers & the recruiters.

Cheers!

Thanks a lot, Kiran!
I first of all meant parallel applications inside McKinsey but of course I am still applying to other places.

Hi there,

Congrats on the offer!

This is starting to happen as we see economic slowdowns.

Have they given you a set date? Have you signed a written contract? If they have, I wouldn't worry too much.

However, if there is no signed contract or set date and/or you are running low on cash, I would probably keep applying to other firms.

Regarding your questions, no set date, no contract, it is all vocally. So I am applying.

Hi there,

This is rather unusual, but since you've passed the rounds already, there is no point in re-apply. Just remain in touch with the recruiter and wait until they are able to give you a starting date. And, of course, try to enjoy life as much as possible in between :)

Best,

Cristian

Hello!

Something that I didn´t understand from your post: how many rounds did you pass? Do you have the promise of the offer already?

Cheers,

Clara

Clearly two is the least number of rounds. And by a round we here usually don't mean an interview but two interviews.
After the second round, I was communicated verbally that I had successfully passed into the Firm. But no promise was given. They will be able to come back to me with the offer later when an open position will be there.
Basically my question is how to accelerate this positioning.

Did you apply to a particular practice e.g., digital, operations, marketing? If it was to a particular practice then I'd message the recruiting team and say that you'd like to be considered for a generalist role and should you re-apply or could they consider you based on your application. The interview processes are identical so I'd be surprised if they asked you to reapply - but you should ask the question and ask to be considered as a generalist.

Good luck!

Hey there,

If you are theoretically offer-ready, you should not go through the process again!

I would reach out to HR and discuss your case, stating your motivation to start in a different role. Usually, what happens in these cases is that you might have one or two more interviews with Partners in that particular practice or function.

These interviews can either be an informal chit-chat or a more serious case/PEI type of interview.

In any case, no need to start from scratch!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi, congrats on the offer!
I confirm the recommendation of not applying again but just wait for them while staying in touch with HR without worrying about bothering them: they're there to help

Hello,

I would reach out to HR and explain your situation. If the interviews for the other position are similar to the ones you already passed, you should not have to do them again.
