Hi, I've 3.5 years of work experience after completing my undergraduate education including 2 years at a global consumer research/analytics firm. I want to switch to McK's consulting. Should I apply as a Junior Associate or BA?
Apply as a BA or Junior Associate?

Hello,
I would apply to a Junior Associate position, as you already have +3 years of experience.
But there are few remarks that you have to consider:
- It will be easier to enter as a BA in terms of application process difficulty
- As an Associate, you will be expected much more, so your first months could be tough in terms of hours / stress
If you fell that you are prepared, I would apply to Junior Associate, but it can be a possibility to apply to Analyst, outperform and gain a fast track through Associate. You can even talk about this during the interview process
Do not hesitate to contact if you have any question

Hi there,
Q: Hi, I've 3.5 years of work experience after completing my undergraduate education. Should I apply as a Junior Associate or BA?
In most countries, you should be able to apply for a Junior Associate/Senior BA position. If you want, you can check with HR or the person referring you for confirmation.
Good luck!
Francesco

JAsc makes most sense.
BA is for people who are fresh grads and typically have no working experience or under 2y of work experience.
When you have at least 5y of work experience, or a PhD or an MBA, then you go straight to Associate.
You're in between. Thus, JAsc.
Still, have this discussion with the recruiter from your target office. I'm pretty certain they'll confirm this, but it's still best to find out straight from them.
And good luck!
Cristian

Based on your 3.5 years of work experience, including 2 years at a global consumer research/analytics firm, I would recommend applying as a Business Analyst (BA) at McKinsey. The BA role is typically suited for individuals with a few years of professional experience who are looking to transition into consulting. As a BA, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, develop your analytical and problem-solving skills, and gain exposure to different industries and clients.
While the Junior Associate position may also be an option, it is typically more suitable for candidates with less work experience, such as recent graduates or individuals with up to 2 years of experience. Given your 3.5 years of experience, the BA role would provide a better fit for your level of expertise and allow you to contribute effectively to client engagements.
When applying, make sure to highlight your relevant experience in consumer research and analytics, as well as any transferable skills such as data analysis, problem-solving, and client management.

Hi there,
Talk with your recruiting contact in your target office. Based on your experience, you should be able to apply for Junior Associate position but this varies across regions.
Best,
Alberto

Hi there,
Totally agree with the others here. You'd most likely come in as a Junior Associate (Junior Consultant at BCG).
Make sure to network as well to both get a better view AND help you get your foot in the door (it's a great “excuse” as a question)

Hi,
you have enough work experience for it to count when it comes to your entry level at a consulting firm. Junior Associate seems like a fair assumption. I would still make sure to confirm with the recruiters that this is the appropriate role to apply for in your case. Better to do that beforehand rather than trying to switch applications after submitting.
Best of luck

Hi,
In BCG terms, you could qualify as a Senior Associate (role right before Consultant which is a post-MBA role).
However I would say that applying as a BA isn't such a bad thing. You get to learn the ropes longer and have less pressure. Honestly, in the long run, the tenure cut really doesn't matter.
All the best!

You will be considered an experienced candidate, but a not very experienced one. As such, Junior Associate is the right rank.

Junior Associate! Warm regards and fingers crossed, Freddy
