What to expect at an IB assessment center?

Hey everyone, I’ve been invited to an investment banking assessment center in London next month. I know it involves a mix of interviews, case studies, maybe a group exercise, but I’m not sure exactly what to expect. Does anyone have firsthand experience with the structure or type of tasks (like e-tray, group case, solo modeling)? Thanks!

Hi there, congrats on the invite!

At the assessment centers you can expect a mix of technical and fit interviews, a case study, and often a group exercise where they assess teamwork and communication. Some banks also include a short modeling or financial analysis task.

The exact setup varies by firm, but be ready for both technical depth and soft skills.

Good luck with your prep!

Hi There!

At an IB assessment center in London, you can expect a full-day evaluation that usually includes a combination of technical and behavioral interviews, an individual case study or financial exercise, and some form of group task where they observe how you contribute and communicate under pressure.

The case might involve analyzing a short company profile, building a simple valuation, or preparing a recommendation, while the group exercise often tests teamwork, persuasion, and structured thinking rather than pure technicals. Throughout the day, the assessors are looking not just at whether you get the “right” answer, but also at how you think, how clearly you explain your reasoning, and how well you interact with peers, so preparation should balance technical refreshers with practicing communication and structured problem-solving.
