What makes a good answer to “Why Investment Banking?”
Hi everyone!
I feel like most answers to this question sound pretty similar. What do interviewers actually want to hear and how can you make your answer feel genuine?
Standard question where you will find tons of input online, in the 400 questions from BIWS and the BIWS guide.
If answered correctly it should appear as if going into IB is the only logical option in your life. All your strengths/weaknesses point towards a career in banking. Should touch upon the importance of being a market maker in the economy (i.e. no M&A/Lev Fin Services etc could result in lower market liquidity, levels of innovation, market inefficiencies in the stock market, etc.). Touch upon the client service aspect (i.e. a good banker is the most personal advisor a CFO/CEO can have), etc. Do you homework by asking existing and former bankers what a perfect answer would be and adjust accordingly.
