From Mech Eng to McKinsey/Goldman Sachs and beyond

Hi,

I'm a professional, studied Mechanical engineering at a UK Russell group university, spent a few years in engineering and my last three years in a charity as a project manager. I'm considering a career pivot into investment management and to begin with CFA & potentially pursuing an MBA, to accelerate the transition. Are there any other qualifications I should be pursuing?

My aim is to show credibility and propel myself into a top firm.

Any guidance would be most appreciated.

Best regards.

Lacking details on your experience and achievement so far, of course. Based on the few lines you provided, I would advocate for a Tier-1 Master's program or Top-15 MBA program. This will act as an equalizer and make it much easier for you to get into MBB/IB. Would make sure, if you want to pursue this path, to get into the best possible programs as possible vs. overinvesting time/energy on any other "signalling" factors such as CFA given the impact will be much greater.
