Fidelity research track

Hi everyone,

I’m applying to Fidelity’s equity research associate program and wanted to get a sense of how the career path plays out there. Is it possible to eventually pitch stocks or lead coverage, or do people usually leave after a couple of years to go elsewhere? Also curious how supportive they are with CFA sponsorship.

Hey There!

Fidelity’s equity research associate program is a strong starting point for a career in investment research. As an associate, you'll typically begin by supporting senior analysts with modeling, sector research, and preparing materials. Over time, if you demonstrate initiative, analytical rigor, and clear communication, there is a real opportunity to take on more responsibility, including pitching stocks and eventually leading coverage of names or sectors. Fidelity has a strong culture of promoting from within, and many senior analysts began their careers as associates.

The firm is also highly supportive when it comes to the CFA program. They often provide sponsorship for exams and study materials, and they generally encourage participation as part of your professional development. While some associates do leave after a few years for buy-side roles or MBAs, others build long-term careers at Fidelity, especially if they’re passionate about bottom-up investing and want a steady platform with access to global resources. If you’re proactive and committed, the research track at Fidelity can offer both growth and stability.

Hey! Great to hear you're applying to Fidelity's Research Associate Program.

From what I’ve seen and heard from people who’ve gone through it, it is definitely possible to eventually pitch your own ideas and even take on some coverage. It usually takes a couple of years and depends a lot on how proactive you are and how well you perform. Some people stay and build a long-term career there. Others leave after two or three years to join hedge funds, asset managers, or other investment firms. It really depends on your goals.

As for CFA support, Fidelity has a solid reputation. They typically cover exam fees, sometimes offer dedicated study time, and generally take the program seriously. It is something they value internally, not just a checkbox.

Hope that helps. Wishing you the best of luck with the application! 🍀

Fidelity’s equity research track is well-respected and can lead to long-term roles if you perform well. Associates typically start by supporting senior analysts, but over time, strong performers do get opportunities to pitch stocks and take on more coverage responsibility.

Many stay and grow within Fidelity, though some use it as a launchpad to hedge funds or asset managers. They’re also very supportive of the CFA, often sponsoring it and giving time to study. Solid path if you’re serious about public equities.
