What to Expect

Most McKinsey preparation trains the wrong interview: candidate-led cases, memorized frameworks and little on the Personal Experience Interview (PEI). McKinsey Interview Ready covers both parts of the interview, the case and the PEI, in one consistent approach built around how McKinsey evaluates candidates.

What sets it apart

  • Written from the interviewer's side. I interviewed more than 50 candidates for McKinsey. The guides explain, in my own words, how the interview is run and assessed.
  • Excellent performance, shown. 140 case exercises with full sample answers, and 40 example stories with commentary from an interviewer's perspective.
  • A way to know where you stand. A 30-minute self-diagnostic, self-scoring sheets and a readiness checklist tell you where to start and when you are ready.

What you get

21 books in three levels

  • Level 1, clarity. Interviewing with McKinsey: how McKinsey interviews and what it seeks.
  • Level 2, diagnostic. The McKinsey Case Interview and The McKinsey Personal Experience Interview: how each part is run and assessed.
  • Level 3, mastery. Seven guides, one per capability. Analytical, Quantitative and Conceptual Mastery each come with an Exercise Workbook; Drive, Growth, Connection and Leadership Mastery each come with a Story Collection.
  • Plus. Case Packs 1 and 2 with 15 full cases, a start-here guide with a self-diagnostic and plans for one, three and six weeks, and the Practice Partner Guide for the person you practice with.

Prepare for McKinsey cases in the best possible way

See the case as your interviewer does

Levels 1 and 2 show how McKinsey interviews, what it seeks, and why most preparation aims at the wrong target.

See what excellent looks like

140 exercises and 40 example stories show what excellent answers and stories look like.

Know where to start and when you are ready

The self-diagnostic finds your largest gap, and the readiness checklist tells you when you have done enough.

How you work with it

  • Take the 30-minute self-diagnostic to find your largest gap.
  • Pick the example plan closest to your timeline, for one, three or six weeks, and adjust it to your starting point.
  • Prepare the case and the PEI side by side or one after the other, practice with a partner, and use the readiness checklist to know when you have done enough.

Working through everything takes about 85–100 hours. You can also pick only what you need.

What candidates say about my materials

“The extensive additional material he provides is particularly helpful: with it, you can keep preparing on your own between meetings.”
