What to Expect

McKinsey's case is usually interviewer-led: the interviewer asks a sequence of questions, and each answer is assessed. Most preparation material trains the candidate-led format, whose habits often have to be unlearned. McKinsey Case Ready builds the problem-solving capabilities McKinsey seeks, one at a time.

What sets it apart

  • Written from the interviewer's side. I interviewed more than 50 candidates for McKinsey. The guides explain, in my own words, how the case is run and assessed.
  • Excellent performance, shown. 140 exercises on 20 business cases, each with the candidate's handwritten notes, a full sample answer, why it works and the most common pitfalls.
  • A way to know where you stand. A self-diagnostic, a self-scoring sheet and a readiness checklist tell you where to start and when you are ready.

What you get

12 books in three levels

  • Level 1, clarity. Interviewing with McKinsey: how McKinsey interviews and what it seeks.
  • Level 2, diagnostic. The McKinsey Case Interview: how the case unfolds, question by question, and how each answer is assessed.
  • Level 3, mastery. Analytical, Quantitative and Conceptual Mastery, each with an Exercise Workbook.
  • Plus. Case Packs 1 and 2 with 15 full cases, a start-here guide with a self-diagnostic and preparation plans, and the Practice Partner Guide for the person you practice with.

Prepare for McKinsey cases in the best possible way

See the case as your interviewer does

Levels 1 and 2 show how McKinsey runs its case, and why most case practice trains a different one.

See what excellent looks like

140 exercises show what excellent answers look like, on 20 business cases you get to know well.

Rehearse the full interview

Fifteen full cases, ten interviewer-led and five in the style of partner rounds, with answer keys and notes for your partner.

How you work with it

  • Take the short self-diagnostic to find your weakest capability.
  • Read Levels 1 and 2, then work through Level 3 in order: structuring first, then exhibits and calculations, then curveballs and brainstorms.
  • Answer each exercise out loud before you read the sample answer, run the full cases with a partner, and use the readiness checklist to know when you have done enough.

Working through everything takes about 40–45 hours. You can also pick only what you need.

What candidates say about my materials

“The extensive additional material he provides is particularly helpful: with it, you can keep preparing on your own between meetings.”
