What happens after PSG with McKinsey?

Hi all, after applying on the 17th Sept, I received an email invitation to PSG on 23th Sept (so approximately a week later).

It has been 2 weeks since then but I have yet to received a response… Arguably I believe I did not do as well in terms of

1. Ecosystem game - I did not know that once submitted, that would be it. I thought there would be several trials and errors (or I would at least get to see them played out) hence I did all the calculations in my head and cleared it in 5-10 minutes… but ignoring the perfectionist in me, I believe I at least fulfilled 75% of the core game requirement.

2. Defense tower - the first round was more of a trial (finished in 6 moves) but the next 2 rounds, particularly the third, I believe I did very well. On the next 2 rounds, I managed to exceed 15 moves and for the third round, nowhere were the invaders near the target.

In my case, should I give up, or does no news mean good news? =/

I am almost close to tears, today marks the 14th day so 2 weeks..

Hi there,

Please don't be in tears! Now, first of all, we don't know the results so hold tight.

But, there's something a lot more important to realize.

This is not the end of the world. Life will go on.

98% of my colleagues at my MBA (including myself) did not get an offer from McKinsey (I was not invited to interview). Did life go on? 100%. Were a good portion of the people who joined McKinsey pretty darn miserable in their jobs and left after a year or 2? 100%

You really don't know where life will take you and what things will be good and bad for you.

This is the moment important moment in your life. Until the next one. There is more to life than McKinsey!

The PSG is not like Squid Game where you will get an instant feedback.

However, you will either pass and go to the interview stage, or you will be eliminated.

In either case - you will definitely be communicated the outcome. Meaning they will shoot you an email.

No communication so far - means no communication - and that's it. It is not an indicator of the outcome. Neither is the time elapsed any indicator in any way. 2 weeks is quite normal. Even 3-4 week timelines are being seen commonly. So don't worry. If by the end of 3rd week you don't hear - just follow-up with HR/recruiting. There are tons of people applying - so its just a volume issue.

Sorry to hear you've been waiting so long. I can imagine how stressful that must be. But don't despair. Maybe give it another week and then reach out to the recruiter asking them what is the usual timeline in which they answer (basically politely asking them is they have an update). Good luck!

Hi there,

The time to get a reply after the Imbellus varies. Most of the time is within 2 weeks but can be longer. The longest I heard was 2 months and the result was positive, so the fact you haven't heard back yet doesn't necessarily mean you won't pass.

After 2-3 weeks you can reach out to HR and ask for an update.

Good luck!

You will get an answer. So don't read the lack of reply as “you didn't make it”. It just means they haven't processed the results yet.

By the way, taking a month is not out of the norm.

Hey there,

14 days is still not unusual and there is little advice to give at this point. I would reach out to HR after 3 weeks (call them) to ask about the status of your application.

Meanwhile, keep prepping for the interviews so that you are ready should you move forward.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian
