Most recent answer on May 14, 2021

Greetings, I am a third-year Journalism Major and would be sitting for placements in March 2022. I want to go for consulting interviews but have no experience and academic knowledge for the same. My strong suits are Advertising, PR, and Marketing as these areas were covered in my course. Please suggest how do I go about with my preparation for case interviews for consulting firms. Your guidance would be highly appreciated.

Hello! I also came from a completly different background -undergrad and masters in Architecture-, and believe me, not only it´s not a weakness but it can indeed turn into an asset if you know how to play it. Feel f ... (read entire answer)

Most recent answer on Apr 14, 2021

Hi, thank you for taking the time out to review this question.

I was wondering, what are some resources where advanced level McKinsey style cases can be found. If there is like a McKinsey casebook or something. I have already looked at most of the recent casebooks e.g. Sloan, Stern, Duke, Kellogs, etc.

Secondly, are there any resources for industry drivers and trends?

I would be very greatful if you could share.

Thank you!

Hey there, Any case is a McKinsey case if you make it one. Let's dissect the differences and see how you can use the cases you already have for practice: 1. The difference between a McKinsey case and a non-McKinsey ... (read entire answer)

Internship interview fail... Full time recruiting help.

    Case preparation full time help
Most recent answer on Apr 05, 2021

Hey,

I'll get straight to it - I'm currently in my third year of university and was recruited by BCG, got an interview, but completely underestimated how long it would take to prepare for the case portion of the interview. I got some casebooks from a few universities and just tried to hammer them out with someone for 3-4 weeks... Didn't really get a ton of feedback or learn formal structures/approaches/tips etc... So when it came around I completely bombed one of them and did alright on another... Kind of expected.

I want to re-recruit for full-time while completing my internship (private equity, not consulting). I'm pretty sure I could get another opportunity with BCG, I just need to be in game-shape by August/September which leaves me around 4-5 months to prepare.

I'm really motivated and want a consulting role, what is the best way to approach this? Should I hire a coach? I'm definitely not going to do what I did last time... Would love to hear any tips/feedback/planning prep help!

Hi Sam, 4-5 months are more than enough to get fully prepared and get your BCG job offer. Since you have already completed a couple of interviews before you already know what to expect and the basis of consulting i ... (read entire answer)

    Final Round @ Strategy& London

assessmentday Case preparation Final Round strategy& Strategy& Interview
Most recent answer on Mar 01, 2021
Anonymous gave the best answer on Nov 14, 2018

Hi all,

I have been invited to Strategy& London's final round which is an Assessment Day at their offices, for the Corporate Strategy team. It is expected to last 2 x 4hrs (2 half-days, successful candidates make it to the afternoon session). Below is additional information from the email.

------------

What you’ll be doing at our assessment centre

numerical and diagrammatic reasoning tests

an unstructured case study interview

a structured case study interview

We would advise you to:

Be prepared to answer competency based questions within the case study interviews

Review the Strategy& website for further information on how the team creates value for clients and to review recent publications written by the team

-------------

Here are some questions I have regarding the event:

Any idea what kind of numerical and diagrammatic reasoning tests they carry out, and whether there are any samples online? I'm not sure if the tests are similar to those carried out by PwC with samples available on their website.

What do they mean by "structured" and "unstructured" interview? My understanding is that the structured one may be a more traditional interview, that may be part of their case interview bank with accompanying figures and charts, whereas the unstructured one may be a bit more of an open question with no real set direction, carried out more like a discussion.

How do the activities break down between morning and afternoon? I assume the testing should happen in the morning, with interviews being held in the afternoon; if anyone has had a different experience please let me know.

Are there any other activities not mentioned in the description? 8hrs (excluding lunch) seems excessive for 2 tests and 2 cases. There also appears to be no pure fit interviews even though it seems to be standard practice in the final rounds of other firms.

Any help would be kindly appreciated - thank you very much in advance!

Best,

V

    Case preparation
Most recent answer on Jan 10, 2021

Hi, could anyone recommend good sources for advanced market sizing questions and advanced cases (with answer/solution provided)? I'm wondering whether there is any recommended website (free or paid) that provides a good collection of market sizing question and cases.

I'm not considering case books since many don't provide solid solution. I'm looking for a good source which provides clear explanation and structures, so that I could refer to the solution after doing the case interview practices.

Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for posting a question to such important topic: market sizing! I am not aware of good resources but am happy to provide a general approach and a practice example, followed by a discussion. Let's go for it: ... (read entire answer)

Hi all

I'd like to know the recommended amount of time to prepare (end to end from pst, PEI, case interviews). I know it will highly depend on the individual. But I am hoping I can get a general sense to structure my timeline.

To give a bit of a context, I'm currently working full time at a big 4 (50-80hours/week).

Thanks!

Is there anybody here who have "Case In Point" by Marc P. Cosentino full materials?

Case Interview Case Prep Case preparation casebook
Recent activity on Sep 06, 2018

I heard that this book is "a must" for learning case preparation. So I'd like to read this book. I prefer the free full version PDF download but unfortunately I couldn't find them on internet. So I'd really appreciate if someone who has this book material in PDF (full version) could share with me. If you have the PDF material and would like to share with me, please feel free to send me a personal message here so I could share my email. Thank you.

If I may... I strongly disagree with the premise :) I have found Consentino's book to be solid for company-specific material, and well done for market sizing. I would however NOT recommend it for case prep: his ~15 fram ... (read entire answer)
