Staffing at BCG

Beginner question here:

Can someone explain clearly how the staffing system works at BCG Western Europe offices?

Does it matter where you are recruited or what is your 'base/ home office'?

What do things look like at Western European BCG offices right now? Is everything still done online? Are consultants still travelling/ on the road 4 days a week and 'at the home base' once a week?

Any information and/or experience sharing related to staffing is welcome. Thank you!

Hi there,

These are good questions! Quick note that you should definitely feel comfortable asking these during your networking!

Now, a few answers for you:

  1. Yes, it matters a lot where you are recruited. The country in which you are recruited will be your default for projects. Yes you may be put on other projects in other European countries, but you are defaulted to the country + language in which you are based
  2. Everything is still online. You should expect things to open up in the not-too-distant future, but, for the time being, everything in online
  3. In terms of staffing, you want to build a good relationship with your staffing manager! You also want to build up a good reputation and network well inside the company. If you want to determine your own fate, you need to get to know the people you want to work with (i.e. either they're great and/or in the industry/function you like) and get yourself front and center of their minds when it comes to staffing their projects!

Thank you very much for this insightful response, Ian! I especially like the info regarding building good relationships with the staffing manager, and in the office in general. Great insider tips, thanks!

Hi, in most of the EU offices 80%+ of the engagements are being done remotely. The staffing depends on the office you are working with.

Hello!

First of all, this depends a little bit on the tenure (the higher the tenure, the higher (1) the specialization and (2) the influence that you have to choose our own staffing)

Cheers,

Clara
