RB vs McK vs BCG in Germany and NL

In Germany, by impact size and revenue how do Roland Berger, BCG and McKinsey compare?

I've seen that RB has quite a strong industrial (manu, auto, warehousing) presence and influence in DE and NL compared to BCG and McK. McK seems to have a heavier presence in Oil and Gas. BCG seems to have a strong presence in digital over the other two. Given that BCG seems to have a very high growth rate I'd assume their digital is making revenue rain. Any additional insights here?

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • I would highly advise you to opt for the option that better aligns with your professional (and maybe even personal) mid- to long-term goals. In order to make an informed decision, I would advise you to do the following:
    • Weigh the different criteria that are meaningful to you independently of the current options (e.g., industry coverage, location, culture, compensation). After that, score the two options based on your criteria and their weighting, resulting in two scores. This way, you have covered the left-brain perspective.
    • Critically assess your initial reaction to the outcome of the scores. For instance, if you feel the urge to tweak the numbers, this is a solid indicator that you do not want this decision to become reality. This way, you have covered the right-brain perspective.
    • By doing so, you will be able to integrate both parts of the brain into the decision-making, guaranteeing a higher chance that you will still be happy with it years later.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Good question, I think on a general level the ranking is McK, BCG, Bain (which has grown strongly in Germany) and then RB

Within industries and topics this will look different, e.g. RB will be on top in restructuring for example

Hello!

I would encourage you to look it up, since most of this information should be found online.

McK is and will be a clear leader in Germany. Howevr, truth is that also BCG is growing crazily (https://www.faz.net/aktuell/karriere-hochschule/bcg-will-trotz-coronavirus-800-neue-mitarbeiter-einstellen-16676203.html)

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Dear A,

You are absolutely right that Roland Berger is leading in Germany, Netherlands and some other countries, because of their historical heavy presence on these markets, especially in the restructuring business, which is very actual nowadays during the COVID situation, but also in the industrial competence, such as automotive, industrial manufacturing and public services.

For instance, McKinsey is very strong in governmental sector in financial services and consumer goods. BCG is also particularly strong in financial services, in farma and digital competence.

If you need any further insights, feel free to reach out, since I used to work in one of these firms for 6 years and can share the latest market insights with you.

Wish you best of luck,

André
