I didn’t receive the McKinsey PSG game, but know others who did. I applied this ft Cycle with a referral. Last year, I passed the test and had a super day. Kind of confused why I didn’t get one because my application is a lot stronger this year.
PSG question— no invite

Hi there,
You have to realize this isn't a binary thing.
It's not like your application is “in” or “not in” in absolute terms.
It always has been and currently is about probabilities.
Last year you may have had a 20% chance, and this year a 30% chance and the die landed differently.
Make sense?
Add that to the fact that the market is more difficult this year and voila.
This is exactly why we apply to dozens of firms - we can never gaurentee anything!

Hi there,
First of all, I am sorry to hear about the (potential) rejection from McKinsey!
I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:
- First of all, the recruiting process can be unpredictable and not always a reflection of your skills or the strength of your application. It could be due to many factors such as the number of applicants, the specific needs of the firm at that time, or even administrative errors.
- Moreover, I would advise you to reach out directly to your referral or the recruiter at McKinsey. It's possible there has been a misunderstanding or a mistake. Having a clear and direct conversation could clarify the situation.
- Lastly, keep your spirits high and continue with your job search. Rejection is a part of the application process and doesn't define your potential. You have already shown your capabilities in the past. Continue to apply with other consulting firms, and other opportunities will come.
You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.
If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Hi there,
That's strange indeed.
I suggest you reach out to the recruiter and ask for an update on your application.
There's always a chance something went awry.
Also, keep on applying. In this current market, it's key to diversify you application strategy:

Hi there,
Q: I didn’t receive the McKinsey PSG game, but know others who did. Last year, I passed the test and had a super day. Kind of confused why I didn’t get one.
If you did not receive the test it doesn’t automatically mean you have been rejected.
The score of the test is usually valid for 12 months, so if you did your previous test within that period they might use the past score for your application.
On the other hand, you might also have also not received the invitation because you have not passed the initial screening. In this case, it is difficult to address why without further information.
Good luck!
Francesco

Hi there,
sorry to hear that - there can be numerous reasons on why you haven't been invited (so far), and it might also not be a rejection.
One thing to note is that hiring is a lot tighter than last year, given the economic slowdown, so it might have nothing to do with your profile itself, but the firm might simply invite way less candidates to the test.
Suggest you try reach out to HR and follow up - they will usually be able to give you more visibility.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Andi

I didn't receive one either while other friends did. I think they might've forgone that part of the process for certain qualified candidates.

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It's difficult to say what exactly happened if you weren't in the room making the decision, but hiring is a bit slower in many parts of the world these days - if your application was strong it could have to do with the number of people they are looking to interview, a specific candidate profile they were looking for, or some other subjective aspect.
