Hi all,

I would like to understand your opinion about McKinsey Orphoz UK. I have just got an offer from them as a Delivery Manager.

My background, is Engineer + MBA from tier-1 biz school. I have been working on digital transformation projects for the last couple of years for a tier-2 management consultancy.

A couple of questions:

a.) How is the work and life balance in the UK?

b.) How easy would it be to be transferred to McKinsey Strategy after some time?

c.) What is the relationship with McKinsey? Are you treated like a second-class employee?

d.) I am a bit disappointed with the package offered. Small increase (i.e. 2k more) and fewer holidays (20 days per year, the minimum required by UK law). Is there room for negotiation?

Thank you for your help

Hi there,

There are great networking questions here! Speak to people at the firm to get an ideal of item a

For item b and c, this role is not really going to be something McKinsey cares about. I have not heard of Orphoz, so unless they are very prestigious in the UK, it's not going to move the needle. More important is how well you progress in the firm and the roles/responsibilities you.

Additionally, please don't join firm x just because you want firm y. for all you know, you might end up hating McKinsey and want to go back to Orphoz. You may never get into McKinsey. Join Orphoz because you want to work at Orphoz.

For d, there is always room for negotiation! You may consider getting a coach to help you with this. The main rules are to be reasonable but firm, figure out what is easy for them to offer, and figure out your BATNA.

Good luck!
