Hi everyone,

I had to postpone the Virtual Assessmnet Day by 3 weeks for an internship position because I have to present a project on that day for my current job. Do you think I will be disadvantaged and risk that the position is already filled ?

Hello!

In 99% of the cases is the smartest decision u can make, if you don´t feel 100% ready or if you won´t be able to be 100% focused (I did it myself, and it´s the only reason why I got into McK back in the day).

The only <1% chance in which this would be a problem would be if they filled the position, but that is very very rare, and only rarely applies to very specific positions. For the general ones (e.g., BA, associate, etc.) you are usually just competing against yourself (i.e., if you meet or raise the bar you get in, if not, they wouldn´t interview).

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hi Clara, Thanks a lot for the reply ! The position is general: strategy internship. What worries me is also the fact that is an internship so maybe the chances to get filled quickly are higher. This won't happen in the case they wait all the candidates to be interviewed and only then decide. What do you think ? Gherardo

Hi there,

No, I don't see it as a risk. Top companies recruit on a rolling basis, they don't have ‘positions to fill’, so you should be fine if you just go through the interview later on.

Best,

Cristian

Hi Gherado,

You should be ok.

Just keep in mind though that for non MBB/Big4 this is a much larger risk - try not to do this for other companies!

Hi Lucie, Thanks a lot for the reply. I am worried especially because is an internship so the position may fill more quickly if a candidate is good enough (I am just supposing). Differently would be if they wait for every candidate to take the interview before hiring, giving everybody the same chance to be hired. What can you say from your experience? All the best Gherardo

Hello,

If Deloitte recruiting has allowed you to postpone your virtual assessment, this should not affect your prospects in any way.

This is usually not an issue. There is not a limited number of positions (or a “single” role to be filled out by the best candidate, as is the case of most corporate roles). So you should be fine.

Hey there,

As someone who worked closely with the recruiters at MD, I can safely say that this would not be an issue. Recruiters are usually pretty accommodating to changes (within reason) and as long as you've given enough notice, it should be fine.

Most consulting firms aren't in a massive rush for candidates and will not reject a candidate simply because their interview was a couple of weeks later. What matters is the actual interview. I'd recommend using this extra time to continue focusing on the case & fit interview prep.

Best of luck!
Nauman
