McKinsey's Job Application Closed on website

Hey there,

So I have finished A third (extra) interview on the final round with McKinsey for a business analyst role almost a week ago. (Wednesday, and we're on Monday).

i checked McKinsey's website on my job applications and it states that my application is closed.

I haven recieved an answer from them, but they said they will get back to me early next week.

does that mean anything?

UPDATE:

After more than a week of waiting their response, and during that week i actually heard from HR that they're supposed to talk to me within the previous week, I got an email about “Welcome to our Tech Connect program”

does this email indicates that I got rejected and Im on the pipeline being a candidate again?

is it normal to not hear from them although they said you'll specifically hear this week? Or is it a bad sign?

Hello, it means that they have arrived at a decision about your candidacy but it doesn't indicate whether it will be a yay or nay. You will probably hear more this week but it is hard to conclude just based on status alone.

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your very long application process with McKinsey!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, it's not uncommon for there to be a delay in communication following final round interviews. Many factors can contribute to this, and it may not necessarily reflect the outcome of your application.
  • Moreover, the status on the website might not always be updated in real-time or could be a standard system status following the completion of all interviews. I would advise you to wait for the official communication from McKinsey for a definitive answer.
  • Lastly, it's important to keep engaging in professional development and prepare for all possible outcomes. I would highly advise you to review feedback from past interviews, if available, and continue enhancing your skills and applying to other firms in the meantime.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

Congrats on getting to the final round - that's a huge achievement in and of itself (I know it doesn't feel like it, but it's true).

So, while it's not great that they haven't responded yet, a week is not yet a no.

Remember to keep networking with and applying to all those other firms out there.

Fingers crossed for you.

Hey,

Really hard to tell at this point.
The only thing you can do now is just waiting for their response next week. Fingers crossed.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Q: I checked McKinsey's website on my job applications and it states that my application is closed. Does that mean anything?

It doesn’t sound promising if they haven’t provided a result after almost a week and closed the application, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it is a rejection. I would reach out to HR to ask if they have any feedback, they should be able to clarify.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

This is a bit like Schroedinger's cat. While a one-week wait is not ideal, it does not indicate success or failure yet.

The fact that they changed the application status in the portal just means that the application has been fully processed and decided upon, but the person to contact you has yet to reach out (likely your final interviewer) and is busy at the moment.

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome!

Cheers,

Florian

That's really odd.

You should hear back from them soon. If another week passes and you don't find out anything, do follow-up with them.

Most likely they're just taking time to discuss among the interviewers and decide whether to extend you an offer or not.

Hope you get good news!
Cristian
