McKinsey - Interviews Still Virtual or In Person?

Are most of McKinsey offices still conducting 1st and 2nd round interviews virtually? Or have they started giving applicants the option to do it in-person?

I'm applying to McKinsey (US) as an experienced hire, and they are asking for office location preferences in terms of city. My 2nd choice is a smaller McK office in my current city, so if they happen to pass me to this office for an interview, would I HAVE to interview in person?

I'd really prefer to do both interview rounds virtually, but I'm worried they might question why I opted to not show up for an in-person interview since their office is only a 35 min drive away from my residence.

I know I'm overthinking this haha, but I was just curious. Any experience/input from recent candidates/McK folks?

Hi there,

You're kind of worrying about things you can't control :)

That said, most interviews are still being done virtually. If they want you to show up in person you probably should (it actually tends to increase your odds). However, if you really don't want to do it in person you can likely come up with some sort of excuse and propose virtual.

Hi there,

The overwhelming majority of interview are now done virtually due to Covid. My recommendation is to do whatever is most comfortable for you. If that's virtual, then tell them you'd prefer virtually. If they ask why, you can claim personal reasons that require you to be in the vicinity of your physical location. They don't really mind anyway, so if makes a difference for you, stick with your preference.

Hope this helps!

Still virtual and I believe it will stay that way for a few more months or longer depending on the country/office.

Hey there,

All interviews are still virtual based on the last 30 people I coached / currently coaching for the US McKinsey office.

Cheers,

I coached some people that recently had their interviews in McKinsey USA. All of them still had it virtually. So I think you should be fine.
