McKinsey Interviewer Decision

Hi,

I have a question about McKinsey's interview process. If I only have one interview during the first round, does my interviewer have full authority to decide whether I proceed to the next stage, or do they need to discuss my performance with other employees or HR before making a decision?

Thanks

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with McKinsey thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • For the first interview round at McKinsey, besides the result of the McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment (depending on the region and country), the interviewer alone decides whether you pass or fail.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey final round interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi!

The interview process can change slightly depending on the region you are applying to (every McKinsey office has their way of doing it).

Having said this, I would say in your situation the one person that interviewed you would have 80-90% weight on the final decision. I'm not saying 100% here because it could happen that if HR thinks you are a very strong candidate, they might offer you a second chance with a second interviewer (if you did not perform well in the first interview).

I hope this helps!

Hi there,

Yes, it's within this person's decision power.

Cheers,

If you only have one interviewer, then it's going to be that interviewer that makes the decision, based on your interview performance.
