Hello,

I recently finished the 1st round of interviews for Mckinsey and a week has passed but haven´t heard back from them. Today I check my dashboard and it says that the status is closed, I guess I got rejected then? Will they not call to notify and give feedback?

Hi there,

First of all, I am deeply sorry to hear about your poor experience with McKinsey (no matter the final outcome)!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • While it does not sound promising, I would advise you to reach out to the recruiter to clarify the situation.
  • Normally you should receive feedback and the final decision before the status in the system changes, thus the status seems to be flawed in your case.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on your best next possible steps career-wise, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hi there,

It's definitely possible and doesn't sound promising but I honestly would not jump to conclusions just yet. Wait another week and then reach out to them.

Hope for the best but also prepare for the worst (i.e. apply to other firms, keep preparing for other interviews, etc.)

Fingers crossed for you!

Hi there,

This doesn’t sound promising indeed. Given one week already passed, you can reach out to HR to ask if they have any feedback. McKinsey normally notifies candidates but this could help to clarify the outcome faster.

Best,

Francesco

Hey there,

Usually, the rejection call or email should come before the change in status in the system. I would directly email or call HR to clarify.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your experience. It is very strange to not hear back at all from McKinsey after the first round of interviews even if you did not make it to the next round. I would reach out to HR and ask for more information and feedback.

If the dashboard says closed it is likely you did not make it and they forgot to tell you but it does not hurt to double check with HR.

Best,

Udayan

It clearly seems that there was a problem in communication. Reach out to HR with that same question (i.e., that you see that the status is closed but that you did not receive any formal communication).

Given the circumstances, it really looks like things didn't work out for you and you didn't receive the email with the bad news… but check with them anyway.
