Mckinsey 2nd round interview offer or nah?

Recently had the 1st round interview, totally messed up the case with a not-bad (personally) PEI session.

My brain got frozen and couldn’t get the simple quant q in my head until asking 2 or 3 questions to the interviewer.

Honestly, I wouldn’t give 2nd round offer myself if I were the interviewer, but just wondering if any cases are out there like me for the high hopes.

Cheers

Hi there,

Q: Just wondering if any cases are out there like me for the high hopes.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for anyone but the interviewer to evaluate your particular case now.

You can make a math mistake in the case interview and still pass. However, that depends on the mistake itself and the only one who has the full picture of your performance now is the interviewer.

Although I understand your desire to get a clear answer, the only thing you can do now is to act on what is in your control, that is (i) prepare for other interviews/ apply to other companies and/or (ii) wait for the results.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

Did you totally mess up the case (quoting you here) or just needed some help with a math problem?

Both would lead to different outcomes.

If the case went well in the other areas + you demonstrated coachability + handled the help graciously without any impact on the rest of your performance, it could still go your way.

If there are multiple issues, then it could look differently.

Fingers crossed!

Hey there,

Honestly, there is just not enough information to really be able to guide you on this. But from the way you narrate it, it sounds like it wasn't the performance you were hoping for

Regardless, let's learn from this and see how we can get better performance for any of the next set of interviews (whether with McKinsey or not)

All the best
