Hi I'm currently a freshman studying at University of California at Berkeley with a 4.0 GPA intended majoring Political Science and Economics. Right now I'm struggling to find an intern/discovery program/pta for my coming summer. I haven't joined any business/profession clubs yet because I just found my interests two months ago. I'm really confused right now, and would be very greatful to get suggestions.

Hello!

I would 1st of all leverage the on-campus opportunities, since in Berkeley you will get plenty (job fair, specific talks with different companies, etc.)

If that does not work, you can always do the classical online application, better backed-up with referrals from alumni from you Uni who are currently in those companies.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hello Xinyi,

The most effective way is to know/contact some alumni that work in the company you would like to join. Otherwise you could look for events/presentation organised by the company or apply online.
Bare in mind that in order to start an internship you will have to go through the same though process of the full-time hires (Fit interview + case interviews).

Best,
Luca

McKinsey / ex-Interviewer at McKinsey / I will coach you to rock those interviews

Look out for company visits to your campus, i would say it's one of the easiest way to secure an internship for a freshman.

Hi,

There is no lack of internships in the bay area. There are multiple ways:

  • On-campus company visits
  • On-campus interviews
  • Applying online on the companies websites
