Typically you'll receive an email with the outcome of the written application. Then a recruiter will reach out to schedule the interviews.

For the sake of efficiency, the first contact is done via email to inform you about outcome.
The regular phone call afterwards is a pure formality and just for aligning the interview date(s). However, if there are some reasonable doubts a first pre-interview could still take place - but this is also arranged explicitly.

Email is the most popular method. It can depend however if you applied via a referral then sometimes a phone call is also likely.
